Works very well. Fast and Highly recommended.
I used this with a SATA HDD to upgrade an IDE based audio recorder (Yamaha AW1600). It worked well with the two drives I tested. These were a Vertex 2 SATA II 60GB and a Samsung 840 EVO 250GB. Having tried two other SATA to IDE interfaces, this was the only one I found that worked properly in my particular scenario. The other interfaces I tried either did not work fully or were very slow. I have not done exhaustive testing but it does appear that this is a very good product.

Works perfectly with original Xbox
Like many others I bought this to use with a modded original Xbox. You'll need an 80 pin cable to go along with it but then you should be able to use any drive - I went with a 1TB Kingston A400 SSD and it works great. Simple plug and play affair. The power cable is a bit long for this and you don't need the passthrough but it's nice to have. If I'm really that bothered I can just wire up or find a Molex to Berg cable if I really want to.

StarTech IDE to SATA Hard Drive Adapter works in 2007 Fostex MR16
I am stunned to say it worked first time. I took the WD400BB 40GB 7200rpm IDE hard disk drive out of my 2007 Fostex MR16HD/CD Portastudio, because traditional disk drives are so so so noisy, I fitted a GIGABYTE 120GB SSD SATA III solid state drive which is silent and three times the size of my old drive, powered the portastudio on whilst holding the stop button so that it did not try to load anything from the new SSD and it went straight into "do you want to format the disk", I selected yes, it formatted very quickly and loaded a blank Song 01, I recorded some Roland TR8 and played it back from tracks 1 & 2. Plugged the Fostex USB into my Mac, selected USB mode on the Fostex, and my Mac recognised it as a 120GB drive ready to import songs. Unbelievable, it just worked. The adaptor feels a little fragile so I gently pressed the cables onto the adaptor little by little, using a cloth to not touch any circuitry.

Outstanding
These adapters are absolutely outstanding and have allowed me to bring an old PC with a failed IDE drive back to life with a duel boot XP and Win98 SSD install. The pins are strong, I don’t think they will bend like the cheaper adapters. They also work for attaching a modern Blu-Ray drive to an older IDE cable system. Just remember if using more than one to move the pre-installed jumper to either slave or cable to prevent conflicts with the master drive. Cons: Remember to place electrical tape on the back of the pins, as they will short out on the PC case if they make contact. I would have liked if the IDE pins had a plastic guide around them, just to be 99% sure that they won’t get bent, but as mentioned they are very strong and well made. Final Tip: If you are using these to install Win98, stick to an SSD under 137GB and create a 7.5GB partition for the OS or you will get stuck at ScanDisk during setup. Then a secondary partition to make use of the rest of the disk space.

The best IDE to Sata for OG Xbox
Great product and works every time/install. However, as the device is using headers rather than an IDE port, installing and reinstalling (during cloning procedure for chimp softmod) the headers can bend out of place and in one instance I had to replace the headers with a new set so please take care when installing and reinstalling. This is the best device for this task and is worth every penny, but please Startech change those cheap headers for and actual IDE port

Good quality and performance
I purchased to modify an OG Xbox to install a 3.5 inch 2TB SATA hard drive. I found the device compact with a good length of cable for the connections. It is now install in the modified Xbox and the drive works perfectly with no issues and good performance. There are cheap adapters out there but I've used StarTech's a few times and I've always been pleased with the performance and reliability it gives.

This product is fantastic. Much better than the cheap options available on facebook. Upon receipt I was blown away by the weight of the product compared to the cheap one I was sending back. Typical Startech quality on full display here. The Good: - Works seamlessly in an original xbox to allow for the use of massive SATA drives (I used it to max out the 2TB limitation of the hardware) - Made with good materials - Includes a molex passthrough to chain the adapter between a source and another drive - Includes jumpers to allow master/slave/cable select - The power adapter attaches parallel to the board, freeing up space in otherwise craped situations The Bad: - Both sides of the board is left entirely exposed, inviting shorts. Would highly recommend taping off the back of the board, regardless of use - The power cable uses the mini-molex plug used by legacy floppy drives, meaning you need to use the included cable to power the adapter. Not a deal breaker, but extra, unnecessary, wires always suck The Ugly: - As opposed to a standard plastic ATA socket, this adapter uses a pin header. Your IDE ribbon will fit fine, but it seems to attach muss less sturdy This device is 300% of the price of competing cheap options, but it is largely worth it to have a one-and-done solution. If you're looking to upgrade your original xbox hard drive in 2021, you really can't go wrong with this.

I've used a few of these in Windows 98 gaming PCs that only support IDE. It means that all of the SATA HDD's I have lying around can be installed in these retro systems, as IDE drives are hard to find and overpriced these days. There are some operating system and hardware limitations of your retro system if you wish to use larger SATA drives, so be prepared to use something like Seatools to "trick" your larger SATA drive into thinking it's only 128GB/137GB in capacity for Win98 usage for example.. I've tried cheap ebay copies of this item and they are intermittent, it's not worth the hassle, spend the money on this for a reliable and great experience ;-)
