Kinivo BTD-400 Bluetooth 4.0 USB adapter - For Windows 8/ Windows 7/ Vista
Arrived a day early, and once it was plugged in there was no more to be done, having downloaded the driver from their website. As soon as you connect something for pairing, windows finds the driver and puts an icon on your desktop for any necessary configuring options applicable to the type of device connected, so you go to your desktop for one click connection & configuring options. I'm very content & happy to have this item.I am taking the opportunity to update this review after having had a unit apparently fail on me. I contacted the makers, who could not have been more helpful, with advice via e-mail. When their first sugestion didn't work. they immediately sent me a replacement post-haste. upon fitting the replacement unit, the light remained on until the drivers finished loading, and then went out. My attempts to see what I could find out from Microsoft, and other user forums revealed that Microsoft do not appear to care if you have problems with your hardware, just upgrade to the latest windows and all your problems will be solved. yeah, right...... Back to the manufacturers, who sent right back a further e-mail suggestion, (basically, a full uninstall and re-install) which worked and the unit is sitting in its USB port working nicely. I have a sneaking suspicion that various windows and other third party driver updates may be playing a part in the fun & games. I was running the unit in a windows Vista PC, and could not find out anything specific about the registry settings relating to the Bluetooth software, but there are a number of very helpful websites out there who have what they claim to be the solution to a type 43 errorcode in windows (which is what windows was reporting to me as being the problem, but without any further explanation....)and offers you a free download to scan your system. Of course, the fix requires a licence for the sum of about $100.00 USD. Soooooo helpful, the yanks........ The bottom line, is that this little unit will give you great functionality, if you need it in a PC that does not have bluetooth already installed, and do so at a very acommodating price. I can also thoroughly recommend the manufacturers helpfulness if there's a problem.

Great, works like a charm - but if you have problems and also use USB3 please read this!
Great and works like a charm. I want to write this review though for a simple reason. Basically this device just like any other bluetooth usb adapter will suffer from interference from USB3 devices. I had no idea this was possible or existed but it does. Google the subject and you will get confirmation. It took me a long time to work this out and there isn't that much knowledge on this subject it seems so I thought its really worth confirming this here for others. What this means is that if you plug this adapter into the front of your computer and next to it have a usb3 socket and then sometimes plug something into that which works at usb3 speed (say just a simple usb flash memory stick) you will probably find that your devices powered by this usb bluetooth adapter suddenly degrade massively in performance. I use my adapter solely now for a quality MS mouse and it works 100% of the time until I plug a usb3 flash stick in next door to it. This problem is worst when the usb3 device is very close to the source transmitter of your bluetooth signal (ie this device). If you have a few ports on the front of a PC case or next to each other on a laptop obviosuly the problem is as worse as it can be as the devices are right next to each other. To get around the problem and to carry on using my fast usb3 flash stick without making my mouse inoperable I purchased a usb extension cable and now plug my bluetooth adapter into the end of that, about a meter away from the location on the front of the PC hidden behind my monitor where it used to reside. So to confirm, if you have this problem, the cause is an inherent issue between USB3 and bluetooth. Leave a comment why not if this helped you!

Tricky little usb bluetooth dongle
Nice but not five stars as a little tricky to use at first . I.use linux...Mint 21.3 and MX 23.6 and had to go to usual rigmaroll of terminal.. sudo.. etc.. got there in the end ..fine but I had to use the space between my ears at a lot to beat it .. .... Windows probably plug and play .. but BT dongle was quickly delivered and well packed and it is working really great now.

great through wall Class1 performance
Having experienced a couple of Class 2 devices which lost connection with just my hand or a coffee table in the way, it was great to find this device can easily go effortlessly through an internal brick wall. I don't think this is clear enough in the device description, but the Broadcom chip set is Class 2. I also found that I can connect to all my BT devices, phone, Palm PDA and Bluetooth audio adapter. Not the case with my previous dongles. The software was slightly problematic. I had forgotten that with the Widcom/Broadcom stack you must not plug in the dongle to start with or even when asked, which results in the dongle not being detectable by the software. Despite this Windows XP was perfectly happy, recognising the device in Device Manager and reporting no problems. So I had to remove the sofware and re-install, plugging the dongle in when it had all finished. Windows then completed the process and all was well. Its about time Broadcom updated the manual to reflect this problem, which has been around for years. Incidently I had downloaded the latest update from the Broadcom website, but found it impossible to use this at the outset, because it expected the dongle to be installed already. So I used the version 5.6.0.7700 on the supplied CD. I am still on this which surprisingly is a bit clunky, so should perhaps upgrade. However not knowing what the latest version is like puts me off. However this issue shouldn't put anyone off the device which always has a good solid connection to many devices.

Ubuntu user 22.04 - mixed results
Never tested on Windows/Mac as not interested in that. I purchased this for the purpose of getting my bluetooth aukey earphones working with Teams and Zoom on Ubuntu 22.04. Simple plug and play for Ubuntu(?). Well ubuntu 22.04 found the adapter without issue. Connecting my earphones to it - no problem. I had to go in and change the sound setting to be aukey for speakers and mic. first test: played iplayer thru firefox - no sound. even though the sound bar was telling me that sound was being played by iplayed I could not hear it. Played around with all the sounds setting - yes the test worked I could hear the drip/bark test sound. iplayer nope. 2rd test - the self test with TEAMS. - could not get to hear the self test and mic never recorded anything. checked in the sounds tab in ubuntu - I could hear the drip/bark etc 3rd test - tried zoom. setup a meeting with my iphone as the other user. Could never hear any sound from the aukey earphones and mic sound was not heard on my iphone. - checked the sounds tab in ubuntu - I could hear the drip/bark etc 4th test - played a movie thru vlc. Had to select correct source on vlc - this worked Summary - never got the mic to work. Only got the sound to work with vlc and not zoom or teams. I repeated the above tests with another set of bluetooth earphones and got the same results. So it wasnt the earphones. I did not test the file transfer. I did get it to pair with an iphone/ipad but did no more testing than that. For my needs - this bluetooth dongle fails. I returned it and purchased a usb headphone.

A Great Bluetooth 4.0 USB adapter - and it's very Versatile!
Does everything as stated in the specifications. I did not need the drivers, it was just to add Bluetooth 4.0 functionality to my computer which is running Windows 10. I do a lot of product testing for companies, and one of the latest products I had to test the Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC connectivity. Considering the size of the item and its box, I did not expect it to be delivered in a 'A2' size package...lol No problem with the item, whatsoever - it serves its purpose what I wanted it for, mainly file transfers and bluetooth connections to test consumer products. Fully tested on a Canon EOS M6 DSLR Camera, Star Wars Stormtrooper Bluetooth Speaker and an Amazon Alexa 2nd Generation. Pairing was very simple in each case. I have Linux based computers which detected it straight away and a Raspberry Pi (development work). So, I have given this little gem a thorough testing in many environments.

Works with Win8 but not with included CD...
I just got this and the literature with it does not mention Windows 8. Probably because it was produced before that was released or their software was compatible. First, the instructions will tell you to delete the Bluetooth software installed on the computer, I did not do this and had no trouble, just my experience. Also the software on the CD did NOT work with Windows 8, so go to the website [...] where you can download software that works with Win8 OS. The title says update but it also of course downloads the latest drivers you will need for this. My new HP laptop said that it worked with Bluetooth devices so I had attempted to use it before discovering that just meant that it was capable of doing so when an adapter such as this was installed. It takes up one of your USB ports so you can remove it when not using it and don't have to do anything but plug it back in. If you do have room to leave it plugged in then if you have both USB 2.0 and 3.0 devices I would use the 2.0 port to leave open the 3.0 for other things unless your Bluetooth device dictates otherwise. The adapter is small and sticks out less than a 1/2 inch from the USB port I have it plugged in to. I have it located to a USB port near my power cord on my laptop which makes it even less of an issue as the power cord sticks out much further and also sort of provides a little protection for this device when both are plugged in. In any case I don't see any issues with it getting damaged when used on a laptop by any physical issues. There is a tiny flashing blue light but is so small and not at the end of the device but close to the USB port it is plugged in to that I don't notice it and it does not bother me, even in the dark. So far I have just connected two of the Bluetooth headsets that I use with my cell phones. A Blue Ant Q2 and a Plantronics Voyager Pro+. Both of those have connected and worked great. One thing that I have noticed is that when I attempted to use a second Q2 I have it would not connect. I do not know why. I reset it to have no other devices paired in memory and still no go. When I find my 3rd one of these I will try it but that is the only issue I have had and not yet resolved. This adapter is small and does not come with any adware or bloatware to worry about, no trying to change your homepage during installation of the driver or any of that to worry about etc.. It is worth the money and is good that it is Bluetooth 4.0 while also being backwards compatible as I have already tired. There are less expensive versions that are 3.0 or less but intentionally buying an obsolete product to save a couple bucks in the fast changing computer world is not worth it in my opinion. This works and for $15 bucks I have no complaints.

Windows 10 may have driver issues. See kinivo site.
When I installed BT programs including pulse-audio Mint installed it easily. Windows 10 may have driver issues. See kinivo site and Microsoft for instructions. But it is detected and lights up. I don't have speakers but trying to pair with Phonek Marvel hearing aids instead.

Economico e funzionale
