In You Are Here, celebrated astronaut Chris Hadfield gives us the really big picture: this is our home, as seen from space. The millions of us who followed Hadfield's news-making Twitter feed from the International Space Station thought we knew what we were looking at when we first saw his photos. But we may have caught the beauty and missed the full meaning. Now, through photographs - many of which have never been shared - Hadfield unveils a fresh and insightful look at our planet. He sees astonishing detail and importance in these images, not just because he's spent months in space but because his in-depth knowledge of geology, geography and meteorology allows him to reveal the photos' mysteries. Featuring Hadfield's favourite images, You Are Here is divided by continent and represents one (idealized) orbit of the ISS. Surprising, thought-provoking and visually delightful, it opens a singular window on our planet, using remarkable photographs to illuminate the history and consequences of human settlement, the magnificence of never-before-noticed landscapes, and the power of the natural forces shaping our world and the future of our species. Review: This book is so beautiful and fascinating - This book is so beautiful and fascinating. It's good to have a hard copy of the wonderful photos that were coming back from the space station when he was there. He's the best astronaut ever. We love him in this household. Meeting him and Evan, shaking their hands and having the first book: An Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth: What Going to Space Taught Me About Ingenuity, Determination, and Being Prepared for Anything, signed by Chris was such an exciting day. Chris - if you're ever in Oxford, we didn't manage to get this second one signed by you as we were on holiday..... Review: Fabulous Outer Space Experience - This is more than a stunning ariel photographic document of earth. Chris Hadfield has done the rounds promoting this book but also eloquently talking about his astronautical career. I heard him on radio 5 Live talking to schoolchildren. His enthusiasm was apparent as were his experiences in outer space. His questions were answered with so much encouragement. This book is not only educational but also enters a world that was beyond my comprehension and still is, but pictorially brilliant. Presented from above and explained in terms of reality, Earth is a living but a small part of a universe out there. Chris Hadfield displays this in a way that makes it a tremendous read and present.

"YOU ARE HERE" - AND IT MAKES YOU FEEL LIKE IT TOO!
I think it is a great book however it does not download onto a Kindle app on a MAC So be warned as it does not tell you in advance as it is supposed to do I believe. I particularly wanted it on my Mac as the graphics on my Apple PC there are far better than on my older Fujitsu Windows 7 prof. Nevertheless it is a wonderful book and a wonderful concept and well worth buying whatever form you buy it in - either hard copy or for your kindle app or otherwise!! ENJOY IT FOLKS....IT IS TOP OF ITS CLASS!!

The Earth like youโve never seen it!
This book contains some 120 photographs of places on the earth taken from the International Space Station by Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield. Hadfield took about 45,000 images during his flight, so this is a fairly small, but nevertheless fascinating, sample. Looking at these images, one is often amazed that the photos are of the earth. It shows a level of detail that is absent from maps. There are quite a few cases when the photos look like abstract art and they can be beautiful, curious and strange in various measures. This also applies to the ones showing the effects of human habitation, but also including, in at least one case, a disturbing one, namely a graphic portrayal of the consequences of deforestation in Madagascar (pp. 22-23). Although we are now accustomed to seeing imagery taken from space, the nice thing about this collection is that they are all taken by human hand, not robotically from an Earth observation satellite. Hadfieldโs informative comments on the photos are brief, since this is primarily a book of images. I have one remark for those of us, like me, who find their knowledge of geography challenged. It is not, in general, straightforward, to relate the images to a corresponding classical atlas view of each location. The book contains a low-resolution world map showing the locations of the places in the photos, but this is too coarse to permit easy reference comparison with an atlas. There is another aspect to this, namely, that the orientation or, more precisely, projection of the ISS photos is linked to the flight path, so a certain amount of rotation of each image might be needed to get a match with the corresponding conventional map representation. So all the more need to be sure youโre looking in the right part of the map. It follows that it would have been useful to have precise latitude and longitude coordinates for each photo, suitable for use for look up in, say, Google Maps or the Times Atlas of the World. But donโt let this put you off the book, which is worth buying for the beautiful photos alone. I can heartily recommend this book.

Truly amazing book. A perfect size to grab and look ...
Truly amazing book. A perfect size to grab and look at. Photos aren't of the highest resolution on some pages but when you think how far away these were taken it really doesn't matter. These pictures show how amazing this planet really is and the lovely colours and shapes that are scattered around. This has sparked questions from my 5 year old and for this I can only thank Chris Hadfield. A perfect Christmas present for someone or even yourself.

Its a fact that most of us will never be able to travel in space but books like this give you an idea of the wonderful variety .
A fascinating book with some very unusual photographs taken from the space station of various parts of the world Chris Hadfield flew over. Its a fact that most of us will never be able to travel in space but books like this give you an idea of the wonderful variety of landscapes and colours found while bombing around the globe at a phenomenal speed. Well worth the purchase.

Great value for money and a wonderful present for adults ...
What can I really say other than a geographer who has never experienced Chris Hadfield's views of our planet. Superb photographs and an amusing text. Great value for money and a wonderful present for adults and children alike. Something quite different from NASA aerial/space shots. Buy it soon before it is gone or as Hadfield would ',I snapped it before I moved on!'

I love the way author presented his works
I love the way author presented his works. So grateful to have such works. Every images taught me recollect my thoughts and experience different things; How feeble we actually are; How drastically we're changing the geography of our beautiful home; And in some places, how blessed we're to get such views to look at our Pale Blue dot. Gave me a lot of historical information as well like 28,000 year old civilization in Australia. Not too much technical though and that's why I feel like everyone can enjoy the work and admire our only home, we've got so far. "You're here, we all are, for life. Let's get to know the place a little better."
