Wildflower Watercolor: The Beginner's Guide to Painting Beautiful Florals

I've been scared of art ever since my art teacher in first year at secondary school (25 years ago) decided to use me as an example to the class of how not to draw, he actually excused me from his future classes as he didn't see the point of me being there. With my partner's encouragement and the use of this amazing book I was able to produce this picture. The book really is amazing, the first section is a step by step of techniques that will be needed for each project like brush strokes, colour mixing and lots more, there are oodles of photos to match each section of each lesson. The next section of the book goes on to each individual project, these project have art least 2-3 pages of photos and often make reference to the earlier technical lessons that may be of use. I really can't give enough praise to this book and more importantly the Author/Artist, Sushma Hedge, she has gotten me over my phobia of expressing my self with paint!

I'm so excited to start using this book. Each wildflower is beautifully presented and dissected with an easy step by step process to follow on how to build the flower portrait of each. There is lots of useful information at the beginning of the book on supplies needed, various brushstrokes/techniques to practise. So glad I've found this book, as it's perfect for my needs. What would make it uber perfect for me would be if it was spiral bound so that the pages could lay flat but that in no way detracts from the quality of this brilliant book. Highly recommended if you want to learn how to paint wildflowers or even if you just want a lovely book full of colourful, watercolour flowers to look through.

Lovely ideas and inspiration for beginners and those with artists block!

I have recently bought several watercolour books which are all lovely but this book by Sushma Hedge is in my opinion the best to start for beginners. It has lots of lovely projects that are broken down step by step in a concise and clear way. The paintings are done using a limited palette of colours and brushes and she doesn't bog you down with lots of theory which can be overwhelming to begin with. Highly recommended!

A autora começa com dicas básicas sobre materiais e mistura de cores, depois passa para lições sobre as pinceladas que serão utilizadas nas páginas seguintes. Então, seguem várias páginas ensinando bem detalhadamente a como pintar de forma leve e simples ervas e flores silvestres. Vale muito a pena! Está em inglês, mas é de fácil compreensão.

A few weeks ago, I got another watercolor book, but I found it a bit too advanced for beginners. Even after following it for a week or two, I still felt unsure about how to start painting. So, I began looking for other options.I’ve always loved the artist’s style, and when I found this new book, it immediately stood out—it’s simple, detailed, and perfect for beginners. By just my second practice session, I already noticed a big improvement, especially in how I paint leaves. I really appreciate how clearly the content is laid out. It gave me practical ideas on how to practice, which is exactly what beginners need. I highly recommend it for anyone with zero watercolor experience.

Clear, no nonsense or frastrating reminiscence, easy instructions and step-by-step illustrations

I have been trying different courses and tutorials to learn how to do floral watercolors. Out of everything I have tried, this book is by far the best. It is so easy yet comprehensive and clear. I have been able to do beautiful paintings with the aid of this book, and I can feel myself growing more and more as an artist the more flowers I try from the book. The author's work is amazing and I thank her so much for putting this together.
