Written in an entertaining style with many games annotated by Tal himself without the plethora of computerised variations which normally accompany modern collections of chess games. Other reviewers have said that it is the best chess book ever written and I'm inclined to go along with this but with my personal reservation that it is ONE of the best chess books ever written and can be placed comfortably in the company of Kasparov's best work, Chernev's Golden Dozen and Bronstein's coverage of the Zurich Interzonal Tournament of 1953. Worth every penny or cent of the price and a definite for inclusion in the desert island allocation! Review: A superb read - A wonderful and thorough self analysis of games by this one time chess World Champion, superb translation with all the wit and verve of the author and staggering attacking chess. A heady but utterly worthwhile read for any chess fan who is beyond beginner and wants to see how a true chess magician really attacks in daring style!

Life and Games of a genius.
What can I say? Mischa's games enthralled every Chess enthusiast like a tonic. (free Gin included) If anybody wants to see fireworks in Chess games, Mischa is the one. May be Alekhine, Fischer and Kasparov as well. This is not a game of Chess like most commentators use for football matches. This is the explosive Chess of a genius. I bought it for the Novelty and Beauty of it although I, myself play more like Karpov if not Petrosian (the original) style.

More than just a collection of chess games!
This is an excellent book, a class of its own. 1) The didactic value of the games and their annotations is incredible. Tal's lucid explanations are just marvelous. 2) Tal is completely sincere and shares with with the reader all his thoughts (literally - all his thoughts!!) during the game. 3) It is amazing to see how today's chess engines cannot find Tal's moves. Just let them calculate for a lot of time (not just a few seconds) and see for yourself what a genius Tal was. 4) I read in some reviews that the binding of the book is bad (Cadogan edition). Well this is an Everyman edition and the binding is just superb. I recommend it without any hesitation to any chess lover.

Superb game collection
A collection of many of Tal's best, most exciting games interspersed with his mischievous, humorous commentary. Excellent quality book too with clear diagrams and crisp, white pages.

Absolutely love this book. I have many others, among them Fishers' 60 memorable games, Modern chess masterpieces, to name a couple, but this book is by far the more enjoyable read. I would highly recommend this one to anybody that loves chess, and loves attacking chess.
