One of the finest chess books ever written, now in the revised algebraic edition. The author expounds both the basic principles and the most complex forms of attack on the king. Review: Checkmate the king - This book provides a great blueprint for orchestrating an attack on the king. It covers both castled and uncastled positions as well as explaining tackling the Kings Indian position. In addition he outlines conditions that if they exist prohibit a sacrifice. Review: Best book for attacking chess players - Every attacking chess player should have this book. It will help develop a sense of attacking patterns that lead to victories for the aggressive chess player

Are you ready to win?
A simple question, are you ready to win? If you are then this is your book! You will need to have a basic understanding of chess of the fundamental skills of tactics like Forks, Skewers, Pins, etc. You will need to read the book with a Chess board set up in front of you so you can move the pieces as you read to see it in action. It is a very large book so you will be reading through it for a while. This is quite simply the best book on attacking in chess ever written. Show me a master and I'll show you someone who has read this book and probably still has it in their library at home. As with most books there are a few typos in the book. If you are familiar with reading chess books and chess notation then you will easily spot the errors and know what was intended. This algebraic notation version is the way to go. An updated must have. It is great for club players and beyond. I'd say 1300 - 2300 rated players will all gain from this book. If you are below 1300 (a novice or beginner) that just needs basic fundamentals and concepts rather than deep variations get "The Complete Chess Strategy Guide" by Jeremy Silman. This a great book for beginners that covers Openings, Middlegame, Attacking, Endgames, and more. You can read that book without a board set up in front of you as it's more conceptual than exact move variations. Enjoy.

A legendary, still brilliant chess book in algebraic notation.
I owned the original version of this great book "The Art of Attack in Chess" by the Croatian IM Vladimir Vukovich- one of the best and most useful chess books I've owned. I was in college at the time, and the notation used in those days was almost exclusively the _descriptive_ for all chess books then (e.g., "P-K4" vice the algebraic "e4"), which often led to mistakes by the publisher or becoming lost via a tiny bit of carelessness. While this 'new' version has been availale for many years, it was a new find for me. This volume's main contribution is converting the original (1965, I still have this version) to much easier to follow algebraic notation. And a nice intro by John Nunn. It provides excellent, practical and insightful analysis for initiating and carrying out effective attacks in chess. Have not been through the whole book at this point (am at the 1/4 mark, and going back and forth between the original and this new version) but I have found no mistakes in the game data thus far. Highly recommended.

Any player should buy this book, should be 6 or 8 stars
This book is a super-classic, though no exercises to test, this does not matter, as this is not just a book of puzzles and so no need to give exercises for you to solve. In fact it is a bible of attack. After reading this book, your attacking power would be much, much improved and when solving those puzzles by John Nunn, Gallagher, combination motifs, manual of combinatioin etc, those previous difficult puzzels you cannot solve, may now be seem to be easy to you!!! Just look the the numerous reprints, so can have an idea how great this book is!!!! Now with the book in Algaebraic system, then there is no excuse not to buy it!!!!!!

Enlightening
I acquired this book when I was ready to take my chess skills to the next level. I was a Class D player (1300s) at the time, and am now a Class C player hoping to break into Class B. The book presents a plethora of scenarios which are fun and challenging. It explains the moves and traps very well. I spent many weekends setting up the hypos on my chess board, and enjoyed every single trap, failure and explanation. Thanks to this book, my chess moves are much more refined than they used to be. Highly recommended.

A deep insight into the greates attacking minds in chess
This will seriously improve your tactical eye if you take your time to study the positions. Many players speak of "tactical alert" and I find that I have a better sense of when to sacrifice or play for initiative in a given position now. Pair this book with tactical exercises and you will start to notice a huge improvement in your play.

Chess Tactics Weapons of Chess Simple Chess Logical Chess Move by Move
