Can I record an old record into Ableton and split the track at various intervals and sample on the pads over a hip hop beat?

That question is specific to Ableton, yes it's possible but you have to gain the relevant skills in Ableton first to be able to slice a sample and play it back on this device. You can't do both functions (clip launch and midi input) simultaneously so I'd suggest a midi keyboard to play your slices

My son is 11 and wants this..do you think its suitable for beginners and easy enough to set up without parents input!! I havent a clue!! .thanks
