How long  Should l live before sanding

This putty should be applied as a very very thin layer. It is only designed to cover the very minor imperfections and is not a filler. If applied as prescribed it will harden quickly depending on temperature. In a cold environment use a heat gun carefully to accelerate the hardening. If applied too thickly it may not harden throughout and may just form a skin. Work quickly when applying as it may start to harden prematurely and form lumps on the spreader that will drag across the surface. Clean the putty from the spreader regularly using white spirit to avoid a hard build up which will drag the putty.

Cover with one very thin coat and allow to set fully then sand, if there are still imperfections repeat, don't try to cover in on thick coat. What looks like a smooth finish will quickly be revealed to be the opposite, if imperfections exist, when the paint is applied and dries.

I did notice that it may react with some undercoat paints as the paint is applied and bubble slightly. If it does just smooth it down before the paint fully dries and give it another coat of the same undercoat paint to stabilise it. There does not appear to be any later long-term degradation after doing this. You may want to check before use by applying on a test area of thin putty and the undercoat that you intend to use. Note the bubbling did occur on a very low-temperature day and an acceptable panel temperature was being maintained with careful application of a heat gun so this may have been a factor. This was a situation requiring urgency and painting is best done outside on a warm day or in a warm environment.

Will this work on alloy wheels not as filler but after alloy filler to smooth out imperfections before or after primung?

Accepted Answer

Yes, probably.  It dries very quickly and very hard.  You will need to rub it down with wet-and-dry paper 240 grit or similar.  Anything finer takes for ever.  It takes primer OK.

putty not staying on when sanding once dry. i using  car sanding paper. . any advise

Prep the the spot on the panel you are working on with a sanding disc with a cors paper to take the 2 top layers of top coat not as for a bear metal then then mix the filler putty up so it soft then spred it into the spot then get a hot air gun or a stand heater then  the after get a lighter sand paper just to take the top coate off then use wet and dry sand paper with a little washing up liquid and water then you be ok bud that's what I did and that's it and painted then done bud that's all I can say
