I’d recently had to swap out my bike tyres a few times and realised I’d lost my cheap generic tyre levers. I wasn’t looking for anything fancy, and the price of this nearly put me off, but I’m so glad I went ahead and bought the Tru-Tension Tyre Monkey. It’s excellent! Much quicker and easier than any tyre levers I’ve used before. One end removes the tyre safely, the other helps you re-insert it, which is a huge help when dealing with new tyres that arrive folded and want to twist in every direction. It has a built in Presta valve spanner too, which I have no use for, so can't comment. I watched Tru-Tension’s short how-to video on YouTube to get the technique right, and despite being very out of practice (it’s been about five years since my last puncture), I removed and refitted the tyre in around two minutes; excluding taking the wheel off the bike. I also appreciate that it’s made from strong plastic rather than metal, so there’s no risk of damaging the wheel, tyre, or tube. It’s compact but feels chunky and sturdy in the hand. If I lost this tool, I’d replace it without hesitation. It’s now an essential part of my daily-commute kit.

Very well made, looks like it will last a long time. The video instruction was really good, and most importantly it was very easy to replicate. And it worked first time! I've now thrown away my three standard levers.

The reviews would have you believe that this tool made removing a tyre child’s play, and super easy, now if you had soft soggy worn out tyres like the one in the vide o, it would be, but if you have a new 19” extra tough mountain bike tyre, you will still struggle, and have to use a lot of force, so, better than tyre levers, but not as easy as they would have you believe.

OMG. All the times I have struggled with tyre levers to get my bike tyre off to repair a puncture when there is this tool can do it within seconds. I gravel ride quite a lot and, touch wood, have only suffered two punctures this year. One of which I repaired at home, one whilst I was out on the road. It's no messing about. From taking the tyre off, replacing the inner tube, replacing the tyre, 5 minutes tops. I never go out without it now. Excellent gadget. Dearer than the levers but great value for money if you done want to be sat about too long. Very light, especially hardened composite plastic and doesn't take up much room in the tool bag.

Rubbish it snapped on the first time of using it

This tool worked very well for me. It took several minutes to digest the instructions and initially struggled to insert the tool under the tyre sidewall. The trick is to ensure the tyre is totally deflated (even a small amount if air will prevent the tool from being effective) and the sidewall free from the wheel hub prior to attempting to remove.

It remove and fits easy tyres, easily... but given a really tight tyre, it's no magic bullet. I have a 30mm GP5000 tyre on a fulcrum racing 3 wheel - with inner tube. It's a nasty fit - hard to remove and very tight to refit. I can get it on and off with 2 park tools tyre levers and a lot of swearing, but I have to get the bead sitting low in the rim and use a fair amount of thumb power. I thought I'd get this tool to make life easier and mitigate the risk of pinching the tube when levering the final bit of tyre over the rim. In practice, there's no way it was going to pull the bead over the rim on my GP5000s by simply spinning it around the wheel like a reverse tin opener - I ended up having to prise the tyre over as you would with a normal lever. But in the end I still had to resort to massaging the bead and using the thinner, park-tool levers - perhaps my technique needs work so I won't blame the tool and will keep it in my back pocket for another attempt: it looks so easy on the demo video... The other problem I found is that the tool is too wide to sneak in under the bead to get the tyre off in the first place, so I still needed my 2 park tool tyre levers with spoke hooks to get the tyre off. I will give it a 3 star rating, as it's great for "normal" fitting tyres. but will need to re-review after a couple more uses on tight tyres.

The best tool by far. The negative reviews don't seem to know how to get this tool to work properly. I ordered this because I broke my old lever trying to pry a TLR from my Mavic Cosmic 42 UST rims. If you google it, these are notorious for not accepting many non UST tyres. I finally figured out how to remove the tyre, but it took considerable effort and time which I don't think is possible road-side, in the rain... With this Tyre Monkey it is completely suitable for roadside repairs as it is so much easier. Things you have to get right with the TLR tires, you absolutely must ensure the bead is unseated in at all points on both sides otherwise you won't be able to force a large enough gap to get the lever under. Secondly, the application of a little undiluted washing up liquid to the contact edges of the tool will ensure very little effort is needed to run the tool around the rim, except for a little bit of effort to get it started. Same for re-installing. I take a tiny little tub of washing up liquid with me on my rides, just in case.
