Everything you need to know about pitch shot, the sand shot and much, much more, this book reveals world-renowned golf guru Dave Pelz's scientifically-proven secrets to lowering scores by improving the short game. The philosophy underpinning the Short Game Bible is as simple as it is revolutionary: Instead of practicing the wrong things the right way, or the right things the wrong way, Pelz shows you how to find your own personal weaknesses and how to improve them to efficiently lower your scores. Packed with all the knowledge, charts and photos needed to learn from the master, Dave Pelz’ s Short Game Bible is the essential book for every golfer looking to improve his or her game. The short game, perhaps the most important and yet least focused-on aspect of golf, can make or break your entire game. Using diagrams, illustrations and photos, Pelz dispenses advice on everything from the basics such as score counts, the five games of golf and the mechanics of the short game; to specific advice on distance wedges, the pitch shot, sand shot and short-game equipment. With years of experience invested in his renowned golf schools and clinics, and a raft of endorsements from top players like two-time U.S. Open Champion Lee Janzen, you’ ll be hard pushed to find a more comprehensive, educative book on the short game. Bible is no exaggeration
Dave Pelz has researched the short-game, thoroughly! ......Very thoroughly! This is not book of golf tips, certainly NOT quick tips. It is a text book on SCORING Golf from 120 yards in. This is where Golf matches are won and lost. Long drives only take the Amateur further into the woods. But, precision and consistent short game beats distance every time! I have applied the lessons from this book, and I have beaten players MUCH 'better' [ i.e. lower Handicapped] than me. I am a 14.8 Handicapper I have used what I learned from this book to win the scratch medal, from 30 better players! With my Handicap, I have repeatedly come in the Top five in Club Competitions.

Pelz is a worthwhile read.
Dave Pelz goes into great detail covering every apect of the short game and you will adopt a lot of his ideas into your game. Unlike his book on putting, which I found very heavy reading, this covers aspects of the short game succinctly and I have incorporated a lot of his ideas into my game. I would be very interested if he ever turned his attention to the full swing and driving for though their are many books on the subject his approach is good for he tackles the subject for Mr Average. The best teachers are not always the best golfers and vice-versa.

Very helpful book on the Short Game
I got more out of this than Pelz's Putting Bible, and that's saying something as I got a heap out of that. Lots and lots of ways to improve ones short game, some of which I've put into action already and have already gained positive results from. It's long and repetition is used to groove what's being taught, which I found great.

Fantastic instruction book on golf's short game.
Forget trying to drive the ball another ten yards into the bushes, Accurate shots from shorter distances lead to lower scores on your card. A superb instruction manual and one I will keep referring to for as long as I play golf. The perfect Christmas/Birthday (or Father's Day) present for the aspiring golfer.

100 yards in is where the money is made... get this book!
This is a BIG book considering it focuses on shots from 100 yards in. There is a lot to digest in this book, but it's worth it. If you can stick with it you can develop a system used by many pros, to dial in your wedge play.

terrific insights
Dave Pelz gives terrific insights onto scoring in general and the short game in particular, based on what he observed and measured on the PGA Tour. He adopts a strategic view on how to improve scoring. From this factual observation, Mr Pelz then develops his approach, based on 4 wedges and "finesse" swings. The credentials are impressive with several major titles won by his clients. I find that the analysis part alone justifies buying the book. Regarding the method, and the technique in particular, the reading is very interesting even if one does not adopt it. for example, Janzen and Singh (among others) have followed the Pelz system, while Mickelson, another Pelz client, does most shots with his 60° wedge. Overall, this book is a must for anyone who is serious about understanding the short game. It is a very good complement to Mickelson's book.

Realistic advice for real players
As a graduate engineer and another NASA scientist, I can vouch for the science that lies behind Pelz's book, but I'm sure most potential readers know that Pelz is the real thing in that respect. The book itself impressed me in three ways: 1. It isn't written for scientists, just golfers. He provides all the information you need to make your own game better, but avoids the physics that underlie the advice. Pelz saves that level of science for the journals. 2. This is a textbook, not a teaser. After telling you what you should try to achieve with each type of shot, he goes into the greater detail you start wanting as soon as you actually start to practice a technique. Things like how much difference in roll distance you should expect between a lob wedge, a pitching wedge, and a nine iron for the same pitch distance. Most "tips" sound good, but leave you wondering why they aren't quite working when you get to the course. Pelz starts you out with the basics of each technique and then follows through with the details you need to really use it on a course. 3. He avoids the "genius" techniques that some folks love to describe. His techniques work for people who are not born artists with a club, and even those of us who lack a spare thirty hours a week to practice the short game. (The amazing number of pros who go to his schools testifies to the value of his advice when you actually do have time to practice<g>.) This is scoring golf for the rest of us. I'm not Seve, nor are most people. Pelz describes techniques that are more likely to work than not on any given swing because the physics of the swing are in favor of success. An Excellent book. It should be in the library of any golfer who ever accepts a two-dollar Nassau.
