Drums: Absolute Beginners-Music book with CD

I bought this book for my husband, whose comments appear here. Having virtually no knowledge of what to do once I sat behind my drum kit, other than what I had taken from the admittedly quite useful extracts on U-Tube, I found the book to be very informative and easy to understand. The section on reading music for the drum was especially useful as this should allow me to take on a number of different beats. Good book and good value.

My son is teaching himself the drums so bought this as a total beginner. It's a good book with info on how to set up the kit,hold the drum sticks, look after it etc. which is all very helpful. It starts from scratch with very basic rythms and progresses to a basic rock pattern also showing how the music is written. There is a CD which comes with it which my son hasn't used that much. However, I have worked through the book aswell and found the CD to be quite useful in helping to keep time. By the end of the book you will be able to play a few varied patterns using the bass, snare, hi-hat and crash cymbal which is pretty impressive to a complete novice.

This is an excellent book to get started on the drums with. Good step by step instructions concentrating on the basics and getting those right. The CD was really useful to get the timing right. Highly recommended

Small format book - just over A5 I think. Enough to get you started. I used this to help me get programming drum patterns into my computer i.e. I'm not a drummer. It's quite short; if you start drumming and practice regularly you would quickly outgrow this book. As a get you started book, it's clear, concise, and each exercise builds on the next without becoming too complicated too quickly. I picked up book two from the library and it's a good follow-on.

great book for beginners, it goes through everything, naming parts of your kit and telling you what they're for, basic beats and how to read music. It really is for 'absolute' beginners though, do not buy if you've learned the dummy stuff you need to know about drums

A bit to complicated for my son as he is only just starting off

Whilst the information in the book is just about right for your average learner, I find that the accompanying CD will not play consistently on any of my playback devices, but just skips around from track to track (sometimes going back to the middle of a track it has already played?).

Bought the book for my 12 year old daughter. Together with the Cd it is a very good starter help, the book is well written and has clear and easy to understand explanations to get any one going. Great value for money, can certainly recommend it.
