Betty Crocker Super Moist Devil's Food Cake Mix

Not cheap but you will know why when you taste it. A light and sweet sponge, moist and tempting till the last bite. It was very easy to make. (I used American quantities for cup measurements 1cup=240ml. I used the recommended timings even for a fan oven and the cake turned out simply devine. We ate it all before I could make any frosting for it. I promised myself I would cut down in cake; but I regret NOTHING! It was superb!

Really easy to use and tasty...nice to add a chocolate fudge filling to it for sweetness and some choc chips.

Useful and dead easy to make (just whip the content of the packet at high speed for 2mn with 3 eggs, 1 cup water and 2/3 cups oils - the recipe says 1/2 cup but I find the results are better with a bit more oil. I also add a pinch of salt). The resulting sponge is moist and billowy light, in a way which I have never been able to replicate by mixing my home recipe (and I've been a keen cook and baker for over 20 years). However: there is a 'but'. Like all Betty Crocker ready made mixes the mix is awfully sweet. It really needs something to cut the sweetness. I couldn't eat it as it is. So here are (in my experience) three good options: a) after you've poured the batter in a 22cm tin, add pear or apple halves (you garnish the whole surface), then sprinkle with flaked almonds and bake for about 40-45mn at 150°C in a fan oven. The fruit will sink, the cake will rise high. You want to stop the baking before the middle is totally baked. This way when you slice it (after having cooled it) you get a custardy mix in the centre which is delectable. I also use the mix to make muffins and add fresh blueberries or grated apple (about 3-4 for the packet). b) add coffee granules or unsweetened cocoa to the mix and make a coffee or chocolate cake (with streusel for the first, icing/filling for the second). c) use a fairly bitter chocolate filling. Any of these yields excellent results. Hope this helps!

I am so excited I found this mix. First of all, I’ve not found a spiced cake mix anywhere in the UK before, so that’s great. This absolutely gives me a pumpkin spice vibe, would be amazing for autumn baking. Secondly, these made the bounciest, softest cakes ever!! They’re so springy, cooked perfectly. You also get loads of mix so i managed to make cupcakes and a larger round cake. Will buy again for sure :) cream cheese icing going on top when they’re cool!

This is the American version so measurements in cups and fahreheit. You will need conversion charts. On the plus side a very light cake and tasty
