I love this film. It is more than just a story of a man being marooned on a desert island. It also about the human spirit, the deep human need we all have for other people in our lives and also the power of love. Tom Hanks as always is superb and for me this is his finest performance. I could watch this actor forever. Beautiful film and I am so glad it has an uplifting ending.

The title says it all and the acting does it all. The film relies entirely on a great performance by Tom Hanks in a 21st century version of "Robinson Crusoe" minus the Friday element. The modern extras include a very impressive sea plane crash as lived from inside the cabin, and several themes related to the heroe's passage from his hi-tech world to a primal environment. Filmed with realism and efficiency, it shows well the beauty and horror of the natural world, magnifies human resilience and stresses edifyingly the fragility of things taken for granted. A pleasant family movie, although youngsters won't be interested in the romantic last part, and the hero's reunion with his former wife who had remarried after writing him off. Anyone under ten can go to bed as soon as the hero is rescued, about fifteen minutes from the end. A nice, modern fable with some healthy philosophy and good action scenes, and a collector's item for those who, like me, are fascinated by the desert island mythology.

An interesting concept it was really good how he adapted to living on the island and how he used the items in the parcels to make tools for building

bought this to support my work as a teacher, to do a comparison with a book.

I fell asleep half way through this movie. My fault.....not the movies. So, I watched it the next night.....in full......and enjoyed it. But, there is one thing I have to say. Surely they could have come up with a more sensible and appropriate ending .....that I DID NOT enjoy.His wife (apparently) honestly believed her husband to be dead. As such, she was allowed to get married with the man who took her deceased(?) husbands place. Upon his return, she couldn't just dump her now husband. Would it have been the wrong thing for her to do if she went back to her re-discovered , back from the dead, husband? Like I said, I really think the movie could / should have had a more suitable ending The sad, lucky to be alive husband is now paying the penalty for returning to his wife (who, obviously still loves him), alive.

Guter Film und gute Qualität

I was deeply disappointed with this DVD as I have had trouble finding this movie, and thought I had finally found it! When it arrived, my DVD player would not play it, saying that my "country code" was wrong and that it would only play in Australia. I had never heard of a country code, so was very surprised and disappointed. This product went in the garbage.
