A Terrific Little Train - But don't believe what Rufus tells you!
Before ordering this toy train for my grandson, I checked what batteries were needed. Rufus, Amazon's AI assistant, told me that the train itself needed two LR44 button cells alongside four AA batteries for the remote. Speaking as a retired electronics engineer, I felt sure that this was wrong: why would you need so much power for the infra-red remote, and so little power for the train? Turns out that he (or possibly she?) was indeed speaking with a forked tongue. This toy train does not need *ANY* LR44 cells at all. It simply takes two AA batteries for the train and another two for the remote. In the same way, Rufus insists that you turn the train upside down and remove the *bottom* cover to replace the fictitious LR44 cells. There is no bottom cover. Instead, you undo a single screw at the *back* of the train and replace the two AA batteries as and when needed. Rufus was obviously smoking something illegal when he/she came up with these instructions... 🤣 Aside from the miselading comments from Reckless Rufus, the train is a delight to use. It's so nice to be able to operate it without physiically touching the locomotive, and children will also love being able to operate the horn and lights from the remote. Can't wait to show it to my grandson!

Great little train
I bought this for my 3 year old. He loves it. It has a remote. However, it can be controller without it. The only issue is that the remote is infrared. So, if there is no line of sight, it won't work. I would definitely buy again though.

Excellent
The locomotive is well made from high quality plastic, it is powerful and had no problems pulling a long train up the Brio bridges. One pair of AA batteries lasted for several hours of running, which I think is very good. The buttons on top are intuitive, our 22month old just knew which one to press for forward and back; he is not interested in stop. The switchable front lights and flashing reversing light are a great idea. There is no magnetic coupling on the front. The remote control can be a bit dodgy - sometimes we have to put it in reverse to get stop, but usually it works fine. It does need line of sight which, as the unit seems to be designed to sit on a surface rather than be held in one hand and operated with the other, could be a problem for kids. It is intended for 3 years and up. When purchased the Engine was priced at a similar level to other battery engines which made it an absolute bargain. I think it is usually rather more expensive. I have rated it 4 stars only because the remote control is a bit awkward for kids to hold, point and operate simultaneously, otherwise it would be 5 stars.

Perfect Bday /Christmas/ Reward Gift 🎁
Love this! Amazing gift to any child/adult 😂 our three year loves it and controls it easily! Great fun used most days! Auto shuts off....v handy as he leaves it going round and round 😆 🚂 handles well more so than the battery ones that you press. This goes forwards and back also fab lights and noises! highly recommend....made a perfect bday gift 🎁 he was just mesmerised and ecstatic 😂 ....I also can’t resist having a play when given the opportunity 👍🏼

Great little train!
Bought this train for our grandson aged 5, and he loved it! We bought cheap batteries at first and it did go through them quickly but purchased some more expensive ones and they last for a good few hours, although we have now invested in rechargeable batteries. We have found no problem with the remote control, I have walked quite a distance away from the train and it still works, also our grandson just tends to have the controller next to him not pointing at the train and it still works. In conclusion I would definitely recommend this little train, we researched quite a few battery trains and this one came out with the best reviews as some of the other trains were either too long so fell off the track on the corners or were a bit wide and struggled with tunnels etc we will be purchasing the white one for his little brother when he is a little older.

Good Train, controller could be lots and lots better.
The controls, whilst looking good are not the easiest for a small child to comprehend. A handle that clicks into each of the 4 options would have been better for our 4 year old. Otherwise it's pretty good. You have forward, back and stop. Continuous forward (the only one that locks into place). You can sound the horn and put the lights on. Goes under tunnels well and even turns the small curves, something that the battery powered Thomas The Tank Engine fails to do. Over all I like it. I just hope the handle is well made as it's being yanked about a lot as the lil one learns the delicacy needed. Update after 8 months: Train hasn't been played with a lot, but the batteries are still going strong. On reflection an infrared controller is not great when you're controlling at something that will be alternately facing and not facing you as it goes around the track. Especially when the person controlling it is going to only be a couple of feet off the ground. Not sure if ours is faulty but the IR signal seems to not work all the time and can be very frustrating. The boy's given up on using the controller and instead uses the buttons on the train. I get to the point of deciding that it's definitely faulty, only for it to start working again. All in all, I wish we'd purchased a different item. He seems to like it well enough.

Great Toy
It’s a really good train, and runs very well. My only slight complaint is the range on the remote isn’t the best.

Lasted 4 hours, no longer works!
Bought this earlier in the year when I saw it and put away for my son’s birthday. He absolutely loved it, but after 4 hours it went from strong and fast to very slow, to not working at all! Tried fresh batteries but this didn’t fix it. I’m so disappointed as the Brio brand name should ensure quality, but I see others have had the same issue! Avoid, a total waste of money!

Super fun and great quality after we recieced a working replacement
Update: we recieved excellent customer service and we’re sent a replacement that worked perfectly! It works nicely with our brio, imaginarium and Thomas trains and my kids have had hours of fun with it. Original: When the package arrived the remote didn’t seem secure but the packaging was attached. After setting it up for my son the train works but the remote control does not. So disappointed to have received a faulty product.
