Osprey Farpoint 40 Outdoor & Trekking Rucksack

I needed a new bag for short work trips and commuting, my old leather bag was starting to hurt my shoulder as it was a single strap bag - it was time for a bag I could carry on both shoulders, and ideally one with a hip strap for bigger journeys. After much research and seeing very expensive kickstarter projects with great designs, I found this. Not stupidly expensive, but seemed to tick all the right boxes for me. The first test - would it fit my 15.6 inch Laptop? Yes, it fits perfectly. You wouldn't be able to get a bigger one in, this is defiantly the maximum size. The Laptop pouch is nicely padded and doesn't waste space. The pouch is in the front section of the bag, so my only complaint there is that with a full main section the weight isn't going to be int he best position, BUT the straps are so comfy and you have waist straps, so I don;t imagine it will matter too much. Carrying - I've never had so many carry options on a bag, top handle, side handle, shoulder straps, waist strap and a single long shoulder strap! The shoulder and waist straps store nicely in a zipped pocket, so you can carry the bag neatly using just the other handles. Overall quality is great, it feels sturdy, the zips work well and feel high quality. The full package just feels well thought out. Room - For basic commuting I haven't even needed to touch the main compartment! The main compartment could easily fir a few days travel wear in it with my laptop and other stuff in the front. this bag is going to be my go to bag for pretty much all trips now. Very pleased with this purchase.

I bought this as a travel rucksack to fit maximum cabin bag size and as something I can carry most of the day if I have to. So far I have used it for a couple of trips in the UK and it has been great. I am only 5'4" but a friend measured me and I fitted into the larger size so got that, you get a couple of extra litres. The waist belt fits snugly over my hips and with the shoulder straps makes it snug for long distance carrying. I haven't used it in shoulder bag or suitcase mode but the handles are useful for hauling it about. The main compartment is roomy and has useful compression straps. It can be difficult to stuff the bottom of the main compartment effectively, as the zip doesn't go all the way to the bottom, a packing cube might be useful here. The second compartment has large pockets for large flat items (including a laptop) but one of my few complaints is that there are no small pockets here for putting currency, small documents etc. A couple of zip compartments would be useful. There is also no flat outside pocket for easy access to travel documents, but then I mostly have them on my phone these days. The top pocket is really useful - it will take small but bulky items and I put chargers, sunglasses etc in here, you could also use it for a packed lunch. There are also external compression straps, the rucksack straps can be packed away in a zip cover, and external pockets that you can use to a certain extent even with the compression straps in use. No waterproof cover, but you can buy that separately. So while I haven't used it for a multi-day backpacking trip yet, it seems to be well designed and exactly what I wanted given that any bag of this size is going to be a bit of a compromise.

All I have to say is that this is the ultimate one-bag, carry-on solution. If you like to travel efficiently and with minimal hassle, whilst exploring cities and even the countryside, buy this bag immediately. I own a number of carry-on bags designed to carry enough possessions for a week or so, and there are always sacrifices to be made - usually in the comfort of the straps, or indeed the style. Neither concessions need to be made on the Osprey Farpoint. This is a perfect size for a week, and is more than comfortable enough to be carried long-distance on your back, with very comfy shoulder and hip straps. The material is pretty tough and water-resistance, and the main flap opens the whole way so you can pack and unpack easily. I don’t fly anywhere without this bag.

I bought this for a 6 weeks trip around S. E. Asia. I did a lot of research first and plumped for a different cheaper bag with a capacity of 60 litre. Big mistake. I filled it and realised how heavy and difficult it was going to be to lug it around. I then settled for the Osprey fair point 40 litre. I’m so glad I did. This bag holds a lot. It’s a brilliant bag, very strong and well made. It’s easy to get to things, has plenty of compartments and a pocket for a laptop. The straps all stow away inside if you would rather use it as a normal bag. I found it very comfortable to wear and I had plenty of space for all I needed in the trip. I have used it a few time since and hopefully for a long time to come. It’s a bit more expensive than some bags but well worth the extra. I am so glad I chose it.

As expected, a durable product. I used it for three month while backpacking and the bag remains like new - all zippers and fabric are well designed and made to resist rough travelling. The size can get a bit large though, depending on how you pack your stuff - which might not be accepted as carry on luggage in some flights. But this is up to you how you organise your things, of course. In general is a great bag. Easy to pack - great for travellers moving quite often. My only complain is that there are no small pockets inside the main part of the bag. It is just a big compartment and you need to carry several small bags to have your things more organised - especially small items. But in general I love it!

This is a great bag, very comfortable and you can feel the quality. A lot more roomy than you would think. Edit: Over a year and 5 countries later, I can say this bag is excellent. It fits on any plane overhead compartment, it's comfy and the zip is strong so you can pack it fully with no fear. I can't recommend this bag and osprey enough.

Got it on some sort of sale for ~650 SEK. Absolutely worth this money, but not 1,100 SEK it is priced at right now.

Bought this for a several day trip to Europe. Perfect size, airline friendly. Lots of room for individual items/ packing cubes. One pocket for phone/grabbables. Looks good, insanely well made. Be stylish and breeze through airports with Osprey!

This is the fourth bag I've tried for one bag travel and it's the best one so far. It's quite roomy at 40 liters but packs up into looking like a large backpack. The bag is about 3 lbs. The main compartment also opens up flat (like traditional luggage) so it's easy to find things when you open it up. I use two packing cubes (medium for clothes, small for undergarments) and have room to spare for two pairs of shoes (or more) in the main compartment. The thing that might bother some is that the laptop sleeve is in the front zip; it's ok for my MacBook Air but not sure how it would fare for others with a heavier laptop. Depends how you pack the rest of your bag as well. The front compartment is very roomy and this is where I store my cables/chargers and toiletry bag. Then there is a tiny zip pocket at the very front/top where you can fit things you might need on the go like pens, granola bars, etc. One of my favorite things about the bag aside from the quality of its build are the straps. They are well-cushioned and use a suspension system (not sure how it works but you can adjust the tension above your shoulders). There are also a chest strap and hip strap. Out of the bags I've tried (Patagonia MLC, Tom Bihn Tristar, Tom Bihn Aeronaut 30- my second runner up), this bag is the comfiest and I've used it for a couple international travels already with no discomfort. I should mention I have severe arthritis in my cervical spine and both shoulders. The last thing I should mention is when you stow the bag away in the bag hold or under the seat in front of you on a flight, you can zip away the straps and hip belt with a covering that is rolled up into the back/bottom part of the bag. Pretty awesome way to keep the straps from getting caught on anything. Love this bag. I read many reviews here and elsewhere as well as watched videos before buying it and the reviews weren't lying. If you are trying to do one bag travel, this may be the bag. Of course this bag would also be perfect for weekend trips. I've read on other sites not to use this for activities with long hikes or treks as there are bags more suited to those activities. Enjoy! Photos: fully packed for the Philippines. Love everything about this bag. I travelled for 1 month with only this bag and never had an issue with it. Love every bit about it. Not too big nor that small. Perfect for a minimalist traveler like me.
