Tony Northrup's Dslr Book: How to Create Stunning Digital Photography

5 stars just for the fact that the eBook is regularly updated with content and bug fixes. The only disappointment is that the direct links to the videos in the kindle version do not play on the iPad (no problems on Android devices or pc/mac). Having said this, Tony does provide the video link URLs or QR codes to enable you to access these videos and they are well worth watching as the approach is refreshing and generally excellent tutorials. I consider my self a competent photographer and this eBook will assist the beginners on their life into photography and at the same time appeal to advanced photographers. This really is a very worthwhile purchase and will be your 'go to' for that inspiration and skills refresher for years to come.

Very useful book highly recommended particularly at the ebook price, but after reading the ebook I believe the full book price to be fair. I have been a keen amateur/semi pro photographer for 40+ years but I still learnt plenty, particularly in areas of photography I had not previously explored at depth. Over all a very good and informative photography book. The access to the professional quality tuition videos and to the Facebook group for constructive critique of your photographs makes it exceptional value for money. Nearly a year on from my purchase the book gets even better with its updates and additional information. This is the one photography book I keep going back to to reread a subject and to get the added sections and new video's. It’s easy to see why this book has such a high star rating and that it is currently # 7 in the list of books on Digital Photography. The reason is that Northrup is not just a very good photographer with years of experience, but he is also a very good teacher. Some reviewers have criticised the book as not being good enough for the professional photographer; as I see it he has aimed it at the beginner who has been on the road for a little while (like myself) but who now wishes to take the next step. And this is the strength of the book as it is deliberately set out in practical well paced lessons with the accompanying videos which bring the text to life. It’s a pleasure to read, to browse through, to savour. I will never be a professional photographer, but with the help of Northup’s book, I’m becoming more confident each time I press the shutter. Highly recommended.

If you're new to digital photography this is the book for you. The way things are explained makes it very easy to comprehend all the technical jargon. My photography has definitely improved and will keep improving. The only issue I had was the book sent to me was an earlier issue than the one pictured but it's still a great book.

Afraid of all those dials & buttons on your camera? Only using the 'automatic' function? Then this book is for you! It takes you step by step through your camera, explaining in simple words & photos what the different settings do, and when & why you should use them. But rather than focussing on one camera & showing where the controls are for that camera the author concentrates on the effects gained by using a camera's options, leaving it up to the user to find the specific function on his/her own camera. Taking the reader by the hand, the author doesn't try to dazzle with technology or bamboozle with terminology but instead breaks the world of photography down in to easily digestible topics, each one with its own chapter. The chapters are simply written, easy to understand, and the authors uses photos to show how much difference can be achieved with a photo by applying his teachings. This approach is ideal not only for learning about photography but also for quick revision when about to undertake a project. This book has made me realise just how powerful my camera is, and how easy it is to improve my photographs by one or two tweaks of the camera's settings. Well recommended!

This is a great book and worth every penny. Tony has embraced the digital age and throughout the book there are links to videos where he demonstrates the techniques described within the book. This helps mix up the book from pure reading and as a consequence keeps the reader engaged. At the end of each chapter is the standard recap of all the key elements of the chapter, but to re-enforce the learning there are some online tests that the reader can take. Again mixing up the engagement with the reader. What’s also great about this book is that it’s continually updated and that these updates will not have to cost any more money. I applaud Tony for this. Most other books will have to be re-purchased when new editions are released. Beyond the book itself there are user communities on both facebook and a dedicated forum. Once you have purchased the book, simply provide proof of purchase to Tony and he’ll grant you access to both. You are not only buying a book – you are buying into an active, supportive community. For the £5 this book cost me (kindle edition) it’s outstanding value. It’s well thought out, the content is good and balanced up with mixed media. It’s a true digital photographers book in a digital age.

Ottimo libro, con tantissime pagine e tantissimi capitoli per andare a trattare ogni argomento della fotografia. Spiegazioni molto chiare e precise. Pieno di riferimenti a Video creati dall'autore e da una sua assitente per poter migliorare la propria tecnica fotografica e comprendere più facilmente i concetti spiegati. La lingua è in inglese ma è scritto in maniera semplice e molto piacevole, si legge che è un piacere. Ricco di esempi e di foto per capire i vari insegnamenti. E' un vero e proprio corso di fotografia di alto profilo, leggendo questo libro si può acquisire tranquillamente una tecnica come dopo un corso da 200/300 euro. Anyone getting into photography or in need of a refresher will appreciate the material and how it is delivered in this book. It is also backed up by a bunch of videos which make learning photography that much easier. Tony has gone the extra mile (or two) on this one so I'm very happy with the purchase.

New to Digital photography there is a lot I have learnt and understood form this book. As Tony says in the initial chapters I find a difference in the photos I have taken since then. Book is very well organised in terms of knowledge and exposure to techniques. Its has a good balance of Photography Techniques, Equipment, Composition, Lighting , Post precessing, with a very good introduction to Different domains such as Landscape , Portrait , Macro, Under water and more. Videos aid in conveying the idea Tony and Chelsea Present in the chapters. A blend of books and Videos from the authors with their YouTube Channel is an amazing way to start this never ending journey into photography. Though Yet to own a SLR rather my first Digital Camera ,restricted by finances as a student I have been postponing it for later in life. I bought this book before a 14 hrs long journey, reading this book has inspired me to start with what I have. I have been experimenting with my mobile camera and I realise there is a lot you can learn even before you get your camera. I strongly Recommend this book for amateurs and beginners for a strong and clear basic foundation. I am sure a hobbyist or even professional can gain a lot. Authors have shared a lot of resources. I am definitely buying the next Book for Lightroom and eagerly waiting for the one on Photoshop. @Authors The story behind the covers of the books is amazing. Though I am a bit late for Christmas but here are some wishes. I thank the authors for this amazing book and learning resources they provide.

Sou fã e cada dia fico mais feliz em ter conhecido o canal do Tony e a Chelsea. Do canal parti para os livros, e não me arrependo nem um pouco. O que aprendi com eles não consigo quantificar. Esse livro é essencial para quem já conhece um pouco ou nada sobre um ou mais assuntos. É completo demais, não sendo tão superficial mas também não sendo tão detalhista: ensina o suficiente para atiçar o leitor caso ele queira adentrar naquele tema fotográfico. Valeu cada minuto de leitura!

I started to feed my photography passion with webs and blogs, then I discovered some interesting youtube channels thanks to gear reviews and finally I discovered Tony and Chelsea Northrup. They have become a key reference for me with their analytical assessments and unbiased reviews. This book contains a bunch of very pragmatic tips plus several videos where this smart couple explains in a simple and funny way how to make better pictures. I would recommend to check on their free youtube videos first, if their style suits you, go for this book. Apart from the videos you also have brilliant quizzes at the end of each chapter to check a good understanding. An easy way to learn a lot!
