The Complete Calvin and Hobbes

I grew up with Calvin and Hobbes but if you didn’t and wonder what all the fuss is about, imagine a carton of a young boy with his best friend, a tiger, experiencing exciting adventures and crazy events everyday. In reality Calvin is a wonderful boy with an over active imagination and a stuffed toy tiger…. or is he…..This is the cleverest cartoon I’ve ever read and every single strip resonates with me in some way. It will make you laugh, cry, remember your childhood and cringe as you relate to things you actually did. Incredibly well written and beautifully presented.I have both the hard back and soft back versions. I recommend the hard back for the look on the bookcase and being a great taking point with friends and guests. I recommend the soft back for practical reasons if you actually want to sit and read the books. Be warned, once you have stated you can’t put them down and it’s a series that you will come back to time and time again for many years. I just hope you find someone who shares your joy and you can quote exerts like I do on a daily basis.Shame I can only give 5 stars.

Brilliant. Just Brilliant. I've always loved the cartoons, but with this collection I got far more than I expected. As below, when I ordered this I was prepared for something slightly bigger than a DVD boxed set - what I got is a collection about A4 height (from there you can probably get an idea of scale from the picture supplied) and packed solid with cartoons. Apart from the obligatory Author's introduction, each page contains 4 regular strips or one large colour strip. The books are well finished and give the impression that, well treated, they will last a lifetime of reading. The paper is thick and durable, which adds to the weight of the collection but you won't be accidentaly tearing pages while flicking through. In fact, the whole thing seems to have been designed with longevity in mind.I won't go on about how good the cartoons are - if you're looking at this item you probably already know that. If not, the fact so many people have forked out £40-60 for the privilege of owning it should be evidence enough. What I can say is that if you know you're looking for a collection of Calvin and Hobbes cartoons, the price of this collection is fully justified by the build quality. It would make an excellent gift or, as in my case, an excellent bit of self-indulgence, and will give years of smiles and laughter.

Waited far too long to get my hands on these. A great addition to my collection. Amazing books. Hardcover should keep the going for forever.

The other reviews here pretty much say it all... if you are a fan of Calvin and Hobbes, you are going to love this! And, if you are already a fan, you will undoubtedly own a few worn-out copies of the various collections. I already have most, if not all of the books;what makes this special and worth having (..in addition!) is the beautiful presentation, in chronological order, of all the strips, with the large cover art added throughout.It is big, it is heavy, but bearing in mind that it will probably stay put and be well looked after, I don't see any problem with this! It's obviously not intended to be lugged about as your sole copy, and it's nice to have a nice hardback volume to sit and read. If you want portable, take one of your paperbacks. If you want your favourite (and the best, most imaginative, philosophical, entertaining cartoon strip ever) in 3 well-made volumes, then you should really add this to your bookshelf. I just did, having read the previous reviews, and I love it already!(I've read Calvin and Hobbes through many times, and they just don't date either.. Calvin's comments about the advertising industry, and his Dad's views about t.v, the media, traffic etc are as funny and relevant today as when they were written.)Not much more to say... if you love Calvin and Hobbes, this collection really is well worth it's weight.

What can you say about Calvin and Hobbes. Bill Watterson must be some sort of genius to think up the incredible thinks that run through Calvin's mind. But the thing is, you can see how they may make perfect sense to a 6 year old boy who imagines that his stuffed tiger is real, there are monsters under the bed, he is Spaceman Spiff, usually when day dreaming in class, and all the other weird and wonderful things that Calvin can come up with. Calvin hates his mum's cooking, but tell him stuffed peppers are monkeys heads and he gobbles them up (whilst his father now complains about the food). It is hilarious. This collection has every strip in (ordered by publication date). Sunday strips are in colour. I found these superbly funny 20 years ago, my teen/twenties sons fall about laughing at them now and still now, in my fifties, I think they are the funniest comic strip every. Not just funny, but sharply written by someone that treads the fine line between the grown up lines Calvin sometimes comes up with and the unlimited imagination of the young.

This set is worth the hype in 2024! After 20 years of being a fan, I sprung for the box set. Some reviews made me consider the Paperback, but after receiving it I am very happy with the Hardcover.This set allows you to dive deep into these comics, inspect every tiny line and brushstroke, and appreciate this incredible series in more depth than ever before. Such an incredible collection is worthy of such a big, heavy set.My set had NO issues with binding, discoloration, weird smells, etc. It looks beautiful, it was bubble wrapped by Amazon during shipping (although the side of the slipcase is slightly bent inwards, implying that something heavy was stacked on top of it while it lay sideways). The bent slipcase is hardly noticeable, and I am satisfied with the condition of the item.This set is meant for home use, and I would recommend reading it at a clean table with plenty of room. You will undoubtedly have years of joy from this set. If it is on sale, BUY IT.

Ich liebe Calvin & Hobbes. Diese Comics gehören mit zu den besten, die der amerikanische Comic-Markt hervor gebracht hat.Über den Inhalt auszulassen lohnt nicht, da vorherige Rezensionen bereits alles gesagt haben. Was diese Edition so einmalig macht - alles bisher veröffentliche Material, auch extra für die einzelnen Bände angefertige Bilder, sind enthalten. Und da der Strip 1995 eingestellt wurde, kommt auch nichts mehr hinzu. Diese Edition umfasst somit alles Materila was es gibt und wohl auch geben wird! Für Fans und Sammler geht es nicht besser! Hinzu kommt die Qualität der Aufmachung. Das Papier ist hochwertig, der Druck exzellent, der Einband sehr gut, der Papschoner sehr schön gestaltet. Das Gewicht ist zwar nicht gering (4-5 kg schätze ich), aber das ist es bei weitem wert. Und der derzeitige Preis ist für den Inhalt mehr als angemessen (ich hätte auch 150 Euro dafür gezahlt und es würde mir nicht leid tuen). Als einziger Wehmutstropfen könnte für manche sein, das das Werk auf allen 1440 Seiten in Englisch ist. Aber gibt es einen besseren Grund sein Englisch aufzubessern während man sich köstlich amüsiert (und für viele ist das Englisch kein Problem - Schulenglisch reicht vollkommen um 99 Prozent zu verstehen. Für den Rest gibt es Wörterbücher). Wer auch immer Calvin and Hobbes mochte wird den Kauf nicht bereuen. Und für jeden anderen, der Calvin und Hobbes bisher noch nicht kennt aber nach einem lustigen, humorvollen, intelligenten, niveauvollen und auch zeitlosen Comic sucht sei dieses Werk mit aller Entschiedenheit ans Herz gelegt.Calvin and Hobbes war die Supernova am Sternenhimmel der Comics. Ob es jemals ein besseres Comic eben wird ist, zumindest mir, noch nicht klar.

The delivery took about one week (to Sweden) which was what the page said.The collection had shrink-wrapped plastic around it, and then came wrapped in several layers of bubble wrap, all of which was inside a box, which in turn was in another box with some more paper in it to cushion any hard blows to the box in transit. In other words, the collection was very well protected during transport.The collection itself is fantastic, very nice quality. I fell in love with Calvin & Hobbes in the late 80s, and meeting them this way now is like meeting an old beloved friend from your youth. So many fantastic strips with adventures, friendship, love, warmth, and humour. Looking forward to going back in time, losing many hours smiling and laughing when diving into these pages.
