The answer to my USB3 prayers!
Finally a card that works! This is my 4th (!) USB-3 card, and the first one to work AS IT SHOULD. I installed it into a 9-year-old Dell Precision T5400 desktop. It works like a dream - very stable, doesn't cut off in mid-transmission nor throws any other surprises. It is all to do with the fact that this card (Model PEXUSB3S44V) is a 'quad bus' card - it has 4 separate chips (4x Renesas [NEC] uDP720201) and 4 separate large capacitors - one for each USB port. The cheaper cards have only one chip shared between 4 USB ports, and this causes trouble. In case of my Dell I had power issues all the time with other cards - disconnecting drives, cutting in mid transfer etc. This one just works fine and in spite of the limitations of my old motherboard I get speeds up to 320 MB/s through this card (between SSDs inside the desktop and fast external RAIDs via this USB3 card). Optional (but absolutely recommended!) power connection to the card can be done by either a SATA-style power connector or older type MOLEX-type. The card then delivers up to 900mA of 5V current per port - sufficient even for my power hungry 2TB WD Passport (USB3). Be warned though about USB2 devices - the card only gives them 500mA per port, and my old disks require more power (via a splitter cable) from another port (can be USB2). It is an expensive card, but for me worth every penny. [One more comment: if you have a Dell like mine, avoid USB3 cards based on VIA 800 (or VLI) chip - this machine is 'allergic' to them, but Renesas 720201 works fine.]

4 Elgato Facecams plugged into this card, worked perfectly!
Found out about this card and grabbed it for an event that required four camera feeds. This worked perfectly - I had four Elgato Facecams plugged in, one per port and each using a 5m long USB A->C Cable. No issues at all over the 12+ hours it was all set up for. Important to note, you will have to make sure that you've got a PCIe x4 slot (and that it's actually running at x4 speeds, check your motherboard manual!) and power it with the SATA (or if you've got no other choice, Molex) power cable. If your PC supports it then this will most likely solve any USB power/bandwidth related issues you're running into!

Very Poor Compatibility
I couldn't get this to work with either Linux or Windows, most likely due to driver compatibility issues. On Windows, the USB host device fails to initialize and returns a Code 10 error. On Linux the driver loads seemingly without problems, but the connected USB devices don't appear. If you specifically need a multi-bus USB adapter, e.g. for passing different ports to different virtual machines, get the Sonnet USB3-PRO-4PM-E. It may be more expensive, but unlike this card, the Sonnet just worked for me out of the box on both Windows and Linux.

Excellent product with a few flaws
I purchased this StarTech card, the USB 3.0 4 port, 4 dedicated channels, a few days ago (11.06.2019) and I have to simply say, it does the job you want. If you have high powered USB peripherals, this is what you need. Each USB port has its own dedicated channel (up to 5 GBPS) which and the 4x PCIe lane means you're getting much stronger and more consistent connections. A lot of the cheaper cards (from Inateck especially) are a single PCIe lane (1x) and as a result, your UBS will funnel traffic through the only available option. This is useful if you're using webcams, Nintendo DS/3DS capture cards, display adapters, and any situation in which you are using multiple, high power devices. There is however a small design flaw that I think StarTech should address. 1) The USBs being vertical standing instead of horizontal. Once you have installed the card into your machine & put the tower back in place, I found I couldn't plug my USBs in because of the bars blocking the bottom of the UBS inputs on the card itself, from my tower. I had to disassemble again & "lift" the card slightly and connect my devices before putting everything back together. This could be solved if the USBs on the card itself were horizontal and not vertical. I have a feeling there may be some people out there who have purchased this item & not been able to use it due to their towers & the dimensions of the bars between their PCIe slots. As a result of this "flaw", I didn't get this item a 5-star rating that it would otherwise more than deserve. It's an excellent item. You don't need any drivers on Windows 10. I have no idea why there are other reviews addressing the "problem" with their drivers & it's probably their PCs rather than the card itself. A bit pricey, I'll be honest. I was hesitant to pay it at first but I didn't see any other solution. I don't regret buying this as all my devices work flawlessly. Best of luck to anyone who buys this product. 4* from me.

Worked like a charm on my non-windows system
I use FreeBSD and finding anything off the beaten track is a challenge. This card works like a charm without needing any additional fiddling. I have not tried booting from it, but have a couple of enclosures attached to it using zfs on them. So far it is working better than I expected. Very happy with the purchase.

USB Bandwidth issues solved
We've been streaming church services since the end of August 2019 and as various pieces of kit have been replaced, more and more of a load has been added to our PC in terms of USB devices. This showed as an issue in OBS by various sources not being available, particularly when a new device had been added and our last audio device appeared to push the computer just over the edge. This card is ideal for that scenario - maybe a little pricey at first glance, but with for independent USB3 channels, it's given us a massive bandwidth boost at comparatively low cost and fuss. Rather than replacing the motherboard with something with greater USB capacity, this card simply slotted in to one of our free PCIe slots and then... it just worked! I added the optional power connector in case we have any power hungry devices in the future, but this immediately solved all of our USB issues in one hit.

Bought this to run a four-sensor Oculus Rift setup. Was sick of messing around with motherboard USB slots, getting 2.0 connections even on 3.0 ports, etc. - and as I hoped, this card instantly solved all that. Now getting full-speed 3.0 performance from all four sensors with no inconsistencies or problems of any kind. Pricey, but worth it if you want the best. Definitely easier and more reliable than getting a cheaper expansion card and splitting your sensors between that and the motherboard ports. TIPS: - Works plug-n-play with Windows 10 native drivers. I've heard others say the manufacturer drivers make things worse not better, so I never tried. Stick with the natives. - Make sure you have a spare x4-speed PCIe slot on your motherboard, which is the full bandwidth this card uses. Note that this is not necessarily the same as a x4-SIZE slot - check your motherboard manual to find out what speed each slot offers and whether it steals bandwidth from other slots. My MB (like many) has a bunch of x4-sized slots that only run at x1 speed, which would bottleneck this card and defeat the purpose - I had to plug it into the third x16-size slot, which runs at x4 speed. MINOR ISSUES: - Plugging USB cables into the horizontal ports is a very tight fit through the opening for the expansion slot, at least in my case (Thermaltake X5). It's not a problem for me since my Oculus sensors are permanently connected to this card, but might not be great if you plan to use this for stuff that you are plugging and unplugging regularly. - The small heatsink on my card was attached very sloppily - visibly on a bit of an angle, not straight and flush with the card. Still makes full contact with the chip underneath so there's no functional issue at all, and I may have just gotten a one-in-a-million bad draw. Was slightly disappointing for such a high-end card, but not enough so that I'd bother returning it for a replacement.

Couldn’t get all 4 ports working, randomly, only 2-3 ports were detected. Have tried re-seating the card, plugging in the data power, also tried the drivers online. Also be warned due to the vertical arrangement of the ports, your case might not fit.
