THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE...
I purchased the mighty Storm Shield in March of 2013 after my previous umbrella disintegrated following one too many breezy and drizzly South Wales squalls (I'd also dropped some hog roast sandwich in it, but that's another story). I needed an umbrella that could withstand with rigours of the Welsh weather, specifically the windy and wet valleys; I was torn between the Storm Shield and one of those umbrellas with a katana handle, but after taking the auspices it was decided the Storm Shield would be the one. It speaks volumes that I've never felt moved to write a review for an item I've purchased before, but for this I am compelled to share my experiences. The Storm Shield has served me well over the past year; never once failing to fend off the violent gusts and erratic rain. The rubbery grip of the handle gives you confidence when wielding it in awful weather, the good size of the canvas provides excellent cover from rain; and the quality of the double-skinning is such that I've not had it turn inside-out, even during the most violent of gusts! It compares favourably against other umbrellas; a good friend and I were out walking with our respective umbrellas when nature decided to put our defences to the test! The lesser quality of his double-skinned umbrella buckled very early on, my good friend had to use electrical-tape to hold the umbrella up for the rest of our 20 mile walk, and had to cut through this tape anytime he needed to holster his cover. The Storm Shield scoffed at nature's challenge and held strong the entire way. Ask yourself, do you want to carry electrical tape and a knife with you everywhere in case your lesser umbrella is defeated by nature? I believe the Storm Shield also has uses as a divining rod which can help interpret the wishes of the Gods. Only today was I out for a lengthy walk, my planned route led me up a large hill over the back of a valley to a small hamlet then onto home. The weather held for most of the day, but as I began the ascent the weather broke and a fierce storm was unleashed. The rain lashed and the winds howled; I could feel the Storm Shield urging me to turn back but I fought it until I neared the top of the hill... It was then I realised the hopelessness of the journey and acquiesced to the Storm Shield's subtle hints to turn around. As I descended the hill the weather calmed, and by the time I was back on the main road the clouds had parted and some blue sky could be seen. By listening to the Storm Shield I had appeased the Gods and my journey home was clear along the main road. This powerful umbrella is spoken of in hushed tones amongst colleagues at work, it has protected many a head from the wet on the journey to the supermarket next door. Alas, one of my colleagues has recently purchased a Storm Shield for himself and now I have the fear. We hear the distant rumble of thunder and we know that one day our paths will cross in the rain, the Storm Shields will be drawn and we will be overcome by the desire for battle; for there can be only one...

Storming Stormshield
My last two umbrellas have ended their days after being blown inside out and being irretrievably damaged in the process. Enter centre stage the Fulton Stormshield. This is a battleship of an umbrella: a Forth Bridge of an umbrella: an umbrella that Brunel would have been proud of. It laughs at the wind's feeble attempts to attack it: it sheds rain with contempt. One day, all umbrellas will be built like this. Just two downsides: it is relatively heavy for an umbrella and, because of its Gargantuan canopy, it needs a strong arm to hold on to it when the wind is strong. Make no mistakes; this is the stormproof umbrella that you've dreamed of, but it won't fit into your bag and you'll know that you're carrying it. For staying dry when you're out in the raging storm, it has no equal. Its now 19 months since I bought my Stormshield and I have to report that my admiration for it is undiminished. If anything, I now hold it in even greater esteem! I have used it in 'Amber Alert' winds and, although it has often been difficult to hang on to, it hasn't let me down. On at least 3 occasions I was expecting it to fail but, with a fairly loud 'pop!', the vent between the canopies opened to release the pressure and the day was saved! As a former scientist, now retired, and with no connection to Fulton (although I have owned one of their collapsible umbrellas which served me well on Pyrenean hikes), it is my considered opinion that the Stormshield is brilliant. I can report a few hiccups: the little Velcro patch that retains one of the straps is coming un-stitched and it has closed on me twice, although maybe I hadn't operated the top catch completely. If someone had said to me that they could guarantee to keep me dry through the worst of storms for 19-plus months for £20-odd, I'd have made the deal with no hesitation. Let 'Land of Hope and Glory' play on!

Truly excellent and great value
Ok so this may seem expensive when you first look at it, but it really is worth it as this will last a really long time. This is a really strong umbrella which can withstand almost gale force winds (for as long as you have the strength to hold on to it!) and on the whole works really well. I have used this for myself in the winter but have also used it in the summer as a mini parasol to keep my god daughter protected from the sun. However I have a couple of minor grips:- First is that it is not as curved as the picture would suggest, which means that for me it wasn't very effective if rested on my shoulder, even considering it's size. Second is that I personally would have preferred a curved handle so it could be held a bit like a walking stick. Third while not a problem for me, some may find this a little heavy (especially when you can't really rest it on your shoulder), also it's size can be more of an issue than you might think especially when walking down a pavement, it is very easy to misjudge and for the umbrella to knock into someone.

Could have easily got 5 stars!
I purchased this from Amazon in Nov. I'd start by saying that this umbrella is close to perfection and could of easily got a 5 star rating had it not been for a ridiculous design fault that I would liken to designing a thoroughbred racing car then fitting it with a 2 stroke lawnmower engine! Generally the design is excellent, it has a two canopy system designed to let air through and avoid the dreaded blowing inside out. Also, the staff and frame are excellent and I would imagine could easily cope with very very high winds and the canopies are made from an excellent waterproof material. The larger bottom canopy is securely fastened to the main frame using caps that appear to be well fitted however we then get to the top canopy and this is where this umbrella, literally, falls apart! The top canopy is secured to the frame by tying the canopy through eye holes with what appears to be simple cotton thread, similar to what I would use to sew a button on my clothes, and can you guess what happened the first time I used the umbrella in even mild UK weather?!?!?! Yes, as many others have discovered the cotton snaps with ease and you are left with what appears to be half an umbrella with a flag! I have fixed the top canopy myself using something a bit stronger (duck tape) however this is not something I would expect to do on a 'quality' product! I really would like to add that had the top canopy been secured with the same effort and skill as the bottom then I would probably be saying this was the best umbrella I've ever had however the obviousness of this fundamental flaw by the designer's means I can only give it one star! Such a shame.

Calidad Brutal ✅🔥

No doubt, one of the best umbrella ....
No doubt, the best umbrella, strong and design to handle strong winds. Instead to reverse and break like the cheap one. This one has opening all around in the middle to allow the wind pressure to escape. Recommended, cheap broken umbrella period is over.
