if you need clear sticky notes, these are them!
if you’re using these for notes in a textbook, since they are a slightly slick material i highly recommend the sharpie ultra fine point permanent markers!! as a leftie they have the least amount of smudge when i’m writing and the color options from sharpie are great, but they are more transparent than i thought, and you can fit a lot on even the smaller size pads! they are a little thin, so don’t expect to use them as a tab and placeholder for a book because they will crinkle a little, but other than that they work great and have a lot of size options!

Also surprisingly good "dental floss"!
These transparent sticky notes have become a "godsend" for me in my job, which sometimes requires me to annotate hard-copy printouts of documents that are hundreds of pages in length. For example, the larger-sized notes make good "section dividers". The transparent plastic material (the writing surface of these sticky notes) is much stronger than paper. That means you can "pull" pretty hard on the transparent material without being concerned that you will rip or tear it. It is also a smooth and non-porous surface, which means that it will not readily accept the ink of water-based markers. I have pretty good luck writing on them with a normal Sharpie, but it has to be a rather fresh Sharpie. A somewhat-dry Sharpie will not do. After writing on the sticky note with a Sharpie, it's a good idea to let the ink dry for a good half minute. You can even blow gently on the ink to help it dry out. If you blow too hard on wet ink, it will smear. The adhesive on these notes is quite strong, and (as at least one other reviewer has mentioned) if you stick it to a delicate surface, some portion of that delicate surface may adhere permanently to the sticky part of the note, and then become separated from the original after the note is removed. For example, I would NOT recommend sticking these directly to photographs, newsprint, or the pages of a library book. Good places to stick these notes might include glass windows, glass mirrors, a refrigerator, or the metal surface inside your locker at school. When you do stick these notes to paper, exercise care when peeling the notes off. Don't yank them off like a Band-Aid or you might just tear the paper it's attached to. Peel it off slowly. My own (entirely unexpected) application for these notes is that they make excellent "dental floss". Perhaps the use case is more like a dental floss "ribbon"? The product description certainly does not advertise it for this purpose, and if you choose to use the product in this way, only do so at your own risk. My own experience suggests that the clear plastic substrate of these sticky notes is stronger than most (thread-type) dental floss. I have experienced much success in this regard, and have made a habit of carrying a few of these sticky notes in my wallet, just for that purpose. Try ordering (and using) some of these clear sticky notes, and discover your own applications for these little wonders!

Work with erasable pens, smudges easily
I borrowed some textbooks from a friend and wanted to be able to write in them temporarily. These allow me to do that! I chose this set because it has different sizes including larger sticky notes. I primarily use the Pilot Frixion erasable pens and the pens write AND erase easily on these. Downside is, because they are clear, they have a bit of a sheen and plastic-feel so pens (at least my erasable ones) do not dry down very fast and therefore smudge easily. The transparency is not completely clear but it does not hinder reading the textbook page underneath whatsoever. Overall, would recommend, just maybe use pens that dry fast so is doesn't smear.

Lesson Planning Staple
TLDR: Pros -Super clear -Efficient for lesson planning or any annotations on papers -Layer easily -Super adhesive and don't fall out. Cons: -Takes trial and error to find a pen that works, go as cheap as possible. Not ideal if you're the type of person who only likes to write with 1 type of pen. -If trying to remove from the book/paper, they don't always come off without damage to the original paper. This can be a problem if you're a teacher or another profession that has to re-use books between people should you change locations. I teach elementary school. Initially, this product was given as a gift to all teachers in my building as a welcome back gift for the new school year. I began using them in my lesson planning books and despite having 1-3 on every single page, they lasted me all the way to Thanksgiving break. These are a game-changer. They have made lesson planning so much for efficient. I ended up buying more and they have become a staple for me. They are truly CLEAR. So much so that when placed on the book, I often have to lift the edge of the sticky note as or before I write to ensure I don't go off the edges and onto the book itself. They also layer really nicely and stay just as clear if you need a different shape. There are 2 cons to them. The first is that it can be challenging to find a good way to write on them. Any sort of gel pens won't write steadily, and even after going over it multiple times, the ink ends up transferring to the book pages when it is closed. Sharpie pens or felt tip pens are the same. The best method I have found is the place them where you want them and then write directly on them in the book using the absolute cheapest pen possible. This is the reason for a loss of 1 star as I would really prefer to use more pigmented ink. The second, and more important, is that the adhesive is so good that when trying to remove them from the books, it rips part of the page. No matter how gentle you try to be, it'll lift the top layer of the paper (it doesn't rip all the way through). This is somewhat irrelevant if you plan to place them on something you will keep. If I was staying at my school, this would be a non-issue. I do wish it came with some sort of carrier/holder book. I ended up ordering a separate set of transparent sticky notes from a different company on Amazon (colorful ones) to effectively be used together as clear and highlighter style (the colorful ones) as the others did come with a carrier-book. In all, these are a great choice for anyone who prefers to write in their guidebooks or on any other sort of project. I would imagine they'd be great for other professions as well. Namely, anything that requires speech in front of an audience can benefit from using these as annotation.

Love These 🩷
Easy to use & write on. Stick well but don't ruin pages if you need to remove. Perfect thickness & transparency for being able to mark without ruining special edition books. Love the design!

Good but leaves pen marks on other page
They are great to write on and let you see through the sticky note, but no amount of drying keeps them from making a mark on the other side of the page as soon as you close the book or turn the page. See photo.
