Opening resistance isn't adjustable. You can adjust the speed of closing, and the super-slow final closing cushion. Be aware this closer is better suited to a lightly trafficked door of relatively compact dimensions, despite what the sales blurb claims.

Will this stop a door from slamming, i.e. control its speed when it is closing?

I have just installed this on a communal door. Please explain what cam screw "1" controls and what cam screw "2" controls. Not clear!

One of the screws controls the speed of closer from 0 wide open to about 80 almost closed. The other screw controls the other 20 to latch the door. Open or closed windows can also affect the latch by causing a vacuum in the room to the door in question.
