No issues fixing top to base but how does it tilt? I can get it to move marginally but there are screws in the pivot bracket stopping it from moving

Ok.I struggled for a while.There is a spindle that goes through the device.This needs to be tapped out carefully so you can slide the tilting mechanism onto it. The spindle rod looks a permanent feature but it isn't. A light tap with a hammer released it.

Any one thinks it is worth spending extra to buy a heavy duty stand over the standard type? thanks.

I have the standard type and it works very well. I only use it for a projector.

What is the maximum weight this item can take as we have old CD projector with surround sound attachments

The stand is sturdy and well-made from good quality materials. I use it for an Epson projector with built-in DVD and integral speakers, and it is very stable. I think my projector weighs 4.2 kg but I would giess that the stand could bear much more weight if necessary.
