will this work on a FS45Z weed eater

My weed eater is a Stihl FS45. Not sure about the “Z”. I suspect it will be fine. I just bolted mine on and made a small adjust and it ran just fine. No problem

Will this replace the carb. In a fs44?

Since the description does not specifically list fs44 as a compatible model I would not chance it. All these carbs look like but they are not. You may be able to get more information at the Stihl website. These carb swaps are real easy if you get the right part. If you have to spend a few more dollars to get something that works it’s worth it.

The black plastic fitting on the high speed adjustment screw is in the way of the air filter assembly. Can the plastic fitting be removed?

You can but after removing this adjustment knob, you might need a special tool to adjust the high speed needle valve. Disclaimer: some states do not like for you to make your own adjustments.

I read the reviews and one said "not as advertised the unit that the customer bought did not have brass fuel lines" - can you please validate?

Well. I know this. It fit my FS 45 just fine. Been a while but I don’t recall any issues
