It was a thriller movie that came out in September of 2011. Its subject was the outbreak of a deadly virus. The film was titled, “Contagion.” It was very successful at the box office. Steven Soderbergh was its very capable director. In it, a fast-spreading “mystery” virus wiped out tens of millions of people worldwide.Enter the deadly coronavirus outbreak! Its connections to the disaster film are on the scary side. It was reported weeks ago in the Chinese city of Wuhan. Local scientists there claimed it started, like in the “Contagion” film, from animals and then jumped to humans. To date, 106 people have died in China from the virus and more than 4,500, they claim, have been infected. The disease has been confirmed in 17 other countries, including the U.S. where five people are being treated.At press time, Januay 29, 2020, 17 cities in China have been shut down encompassing 50 million people, according to news reports, “as the virus continues to spread.” According to the British paper, “The Daily Mail,” a nurse in China has claimed, “90,000 people have been infected.” This story, like so many coming out of China, has yet to be confirmed.Experts, however, at the MRC Center for Global Infectious Disease Analysis, in London, UK, estimate that more than 100,000 people, not 4,500, were infected worldwide as of the January 26th date. The count depends on “testing,” they insist, and “not everyone is being tested, they underscore.Wuhan is a city of about 11 million-plus. It is on lockdown! No one in and no one out. Before that quarantine order could be executed, however, about 5 million residents got out of town. The city as of January 28, reported 533 confirmed cases. When you do that, you start to come to grips with the immensity of the current virus problem facing the Chinese government and its health officials.In the “Contagion” movie, the virus, which hit the U.S. hard, was spread by fomites, such as clothes, utensils, and furniture. The film did a really solid job showing how scientists identified, and eventually, contained the disease.The virus in the movie, like with the Coronavirus, started in the Far East – the city of Hong Kong. The film also spotlighted the panic that can break out in a society where there is a loss of social order. Citizens are shown fighting desperately for drugs while wrecking a pharmacy that they believe will fix their problem.Another virus expert, Dr. Howard Markel, of the U. of Michigan, maintains that “to put a ring around the city of the size of Wuhan with its population is unprecedented.” Markel is the author of the book, “Quarantine.” The Center for Disease Control has reported a “total of 110 people in 26 U.S. states are now being evaluated for coronavirus.”The movie features some of my fave actors: Bryan Cranston, Matt Damon, Laurence Fishburne, Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Kate Winslet. The plot has a lot of twists and turns in it, too. Also in the flick, the disease spreads at a breath-taking pace. By Day 26, the death toll has reached “2.5 million in the U.S. and 26 million worldwide.” (Wikipedia) All the major health agencies in the U.S. are featured, along with international counterparts.According to the “Wall Street Journal,” the U.S has sent a plane to Wuhan, China, to evacuate American citizens, “including U.S. diplomats and their families.” The aircraft only has about 230 seats, while “about 1,000 US citizens are believed to live in the central Chinese city.” It was reported on January 29th, that 201 Americans were rescued from Wuhan and landed safely in California. (Daily Mail)The coronavirus outbreak’s impact on U.S. businesses in China is not known at this point. Festivities for celebrating the Lunar New Year were also canceled in order to be on the safe side. Schools, too, were being closed until late in February. According to the “New York Times,” travel constraints imposed earlier on Wuhan and areas nearby, “have penned in 35 million people…and Beijing has restricted its bus travel.”In the “Contagion” movie, a vaccine is found after Day 133 of the crisis, and the film soon ends on a happy note. Let’s all hope and pray that the coronavirus crisis comes to a safe and speedy end, too, and that the loss of lives is kept to a minimum.

I watched this many years ago. Thought it was a good movie then and it's still good but uncannily more than relevant post-covid. A thought-provoking scenario that could be said to be based on fact--before the fact / pandemic happened. There's a lot of good reviews here so I won't wade into the details. It is interesting how for decades people have been saying that life is imitating art instead of the other way around. For instance, predictive programming. That's a phrase associated with a series called Hollywood Decoded on Gaia network. One example they show is the movie The Matrix which came out in 1999 and on Neo's driver's license is the date 09/11/2001. The date then became infamous a few years later. Long story short, predictive programming is a way to condition the population to a planned future event. You could interpret the movie Contagion as implying a future event like the one that we just lived through. Interesting concept. Planned pandemic. Plandemic. Watch the movie. See what you think.

If I had watch this three years ago, I would’ve said yeah, sure. But after going through the pandemic, it’s so scary that it is so realistic. I really like this moment.

Great film! Love films you can imagine might happen in real life! Definitely got me reaching for the anti bac gel to keep in my bag!! Shows just how vulnerable we are and how quickly things can spread. Very good film. Shame gwyneth didn’t make it further into the movie! Kate winslet and Matt Damon were fab. Had to google Jude laws teeth though! They’re fake in case you Are left wondering!

Chi ha ideato il film la sapeva lunga. Molto realistico (tranne dove si parla del vaccino e lo dico da esperto nel settore, ma non voglio spoilerare). Dovrebbe guardarlo chi va in giro senza mascherina gridando che chi la indossa è idiota come purtroppo mi è capitato di sentire con le mie orecchie.

Sous-titres possibles : anglais, français, néerlandais, italien.Il est aussi indiqué qu’il est tous publics. Nous estimons que ceci n’est pas vrai. Il devrait être réservé aux plus de 14 ans ou 16 ans, selon nous. Il est exact qu’on le fois une fois, et qu’ensuite, on n’a pas spécialement envie de le revoir.Mais il se peut aussi que certains inconditionnels de ce type de films pensent différemment, raison pour laquelle nous préférons que chacun puisse se faire son opinion personnelle.Quoi qu’il en soit, quelque effet que ce film puisse vous faire, n’oubliez pas les principes de propreté et d’hygiène de base surtout en cas d’épidémie ou de maladie contagieuse, telles les grippes ! Et si vous allez au cinéma … pensez à bien vous laver les mains soigneusement (avec du savon ou de la Solution Hydro Alcoolique) lorsque vous rentrez chez vous, évidemment.

Die Story ist aktuell, und als ob die Virusepedemie 2012 für heute (Corona) vorausgesehen wurde. Leider, leider verliert der Film im letzten Drittel den Faden. Der Impfstoff und die Probleme damit sind zu kurz und überhastet abgedreht. Deshalb 1 Stern Abzug. Was superstark ist: Die Entstehung und Verbreitung des Virus, sowie die Rückverfolgung durch die WHO. Leider auch hier zu wenig Drehzeit, aber trotzdem hoch interessant gemacht. Eigentlich 5 Sterne aber die handwerklichen Schwächen sind einfach eine Bremse für die ganze Story. Das Beste noch zum Schluss: In 30 Sekunden wird die gesamte Infektionskette aufgezeigt, vom Tier (Ursprung )bis zum Mensch (tragisch). Geradezu geschockt ist man, hammerstarker Schnitt .. unglaublich die Lektion die wir daraus lernen können und sollten. Stimmt sehr nachdenklich. Kann man zwei und drei Mal ansehen ! Klare Kauf Empfehlung.

... est totalement fortuite, puisque le film date de bien avant l'apparition du Covid 19. Plus sérieusement, sans être un chef d’œuvre du 7ème art, ce film montre, avec une précision quasi-documentaire, la façon dont les scientifiques luttent contre une épidémie (en minorant, peut-être, les conflits d'égos entre "mandarins" de la médecine qui peuvent parasiter cette lutte), les troubles qui peuvent découler du confinement (ruée sur les produits de première nécessité, tensions qui peuvent déboucher sur de la violence...). Ceci étant dit, le virus du film est bien plus contagieux et bien plus létal que ce nous vivons actuellement...P.S. : A noter qu'il faut voir les bonus, qui sont intéressants.
