My apple carplay quit working, but my music was still playing through it, just a black screen. Same with the back up camera. Any answers?

Happened to me a couple of times when I first installed it. Did a factory reset (or whatever it’s called, it’s in the settings) and it seemed to fix it. Although, I sometimes plug in my phone before the system has had time to fully boot up and it causes my CarPlay to show a black screen but everything still works. If I hit the home button and then go back to carplay, it seems to fix it

Can this be used without an amp? How many ways is the head unit?

Yes can be used without Amp. Not sure 2nd question is. How many ways it moves? The screen can move up down a little. But it can be tilted in any direction.
