I recently purchased the Nest Box Pads for Chicken Nesting Boxes (13 x 13, 10 Pack) made from sustainably sourced aspen excelsior, and I’m very happy with them. The pads fit perfectly in my nesting boxes and were ready to use right out of the package—no trimming or adjusting needed. The quality is excellent. They’re thick, well-woven, and hold their shape much better than loose bedding. My hens took to them immediately, and I’ve noticed the eggs stay much cleaner and better protected. The natural aspen material also seems to provide great airflow and keeps the nesting area comfortable for the chicken

These are great and my hens use them well, but they do get shredded over time. I put a silicone mat underneath for extra cushion and support, and that’s made a big difference. Easy to use and keeps the nesting boxes cleaner.

The material is absorbable and thinish, which works well for my purposes. I am using it as a flooring/bedding in my quail cage. The cage is not high so I can’t use too thick of a padding. Also, the openings are small so the thinner one is easier to get in and out. I had a thicker one, while absorbent, is hard to remove and was making it on the short side for the large quail. I like it is made from biodegradable material.

When I built my henhouse, I designed 12x12 nesting boxes. For many years I would line them with straw or shavings, or other materials. I found these at a local feed store and gave them a try. The feed store was selling them for $1 each. They were by far the best nest box pads ever. I put them down with the paper underneath to help them come out when the time comes to change them. Since they are oversized for my boxes, they take a bowl shape automatically which the hens really like. They can be fluffed up quite a bit too. My hens tend to like them as is, so I don't need to do that, but I have fluffed up the pads to be several inches thick. I get a lot of use out of a pad. Several months before they need to be changed. Because the excelsior is arranged in a mat, changing out the box is very easy, not a mess like with shavings or straw. I like that the material is all natural. These go into compost when they are spent unlike fake turf nest liners which cannot be recycled in any way. I really like these nest liners. I wish I could still get them for $1 each, but for the price, the value is still there.

These nesting pads are perfect for my chickens. They fit nicely in the nesting boxes, stay in place, and help keep the eggs cleaner. They’re soft enough for the hens to be comfortable but still durable and easy to shake out or replace when needed. Great little upgrade for keeping the coop tidy and the eggs in good shape.

These are easy to swap out if one gets messy. The chickens seem to like them but I did have to double up one time because the chicken nestled all the bedding off the brown backing paper and was just laying the eggs on the hard surface. I stuck her “nest” on top of another one and it fixed the problem. I would still buy them again even tho the nesting material doesn’t stay attached to the backing as well.
