The super soft is comparable to a Medium Faber Castell Pitt Charcoal pencil or a HB General's charcoal pencil, soft is like a General's 2B medium pencil. The medium is lighter than a hard HB General's charcoal pencil, while the hard is very hard, almost like a dark gray. They produce a matte finish with a good range of values.
