bought this as a spare for the inline filter that uses these carbon filters. no bad taste. Definitely recommend these if you have the filter they go to.

Great if you want a small sealed bag to take with you. Doesn’t affect the flavor of the filtered water to my taste. There is a 5pb bag of granular activated carbon coconut drinking water grade that works just as well but adds a slight sweetness to the water. Better value if you can go for the large 5 lb bag.

Katadyn filters are top notch filters. I added a carbon cartridge to the inlet hose for additional filtration and to keep the ceramic filter in the unit a little cleaner and this carbon is for that pre-filter.

I have been drinking water from a tannin colored stream on my hiking route and this carbon filter has made the water taste as good as bottled water. In my view it is a necessary addition to the Pocket filter that I bought.Beware that the contents is far more than you need to fill the bottom half of the filter. I’m not sure whtheres so much provided, especially in a vacuum sealed bag that doesn’t have a ziplock function after opening.

I have the Katadyn carbon filter holder also. I found that the filter holder will not hold all the carbon from package when opened. This could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on how you look at the situation. If you buy multiple packs of the carbon you will eventually have enough for a refill with out having to purchase more. I figure between 3 or 4 you would have enough for a bonus refill. Great value for the filters required!

I certainly haven't opened it because this is for emergency prep....and that emergency hasn't happened yet. However, it looks just like the picture. We recently had a bout with city water that tasted like bottom-of-lake slime for a couple weeks. It was so revolting, it was unpotable. We kept being told it was okay to drink, but I didn't risk it. If/when it happens again, I think I'll give my katadyn system its trial run. Of course, it wouldn't be a test for "is this water going to make me sick?"....more of a "can I drink this water at all or will the smell/taste make me puke it right back up" sort of test. I'll try to remember to post here, but I'm sure, given the other reviews, that it will do a great job. I could've saved some money last fall.

Ich habe die Aktivkohle für den KATADYN Combi Wasserfilter gekauft. Nach dem Einfüllen habe ich den Kohlefilterbehälter ausgiebig unter fließendem Wasser gespült um ggf. vorhandenen Staub vorweg zu entfernen. Ein erster Test fiel dann psitiv aus. Keine Kohlerückstände erkennbar und keine Geschmacksveränderung feststellbar.
