My basic Tesco kettle, which basically cost me £5, very many moons ago (so I've more than had my money's worth from it), had started to play up, not always switching on. So, I thought that I'd better get a new kettle before the inevitable happened. I chose this PIFCO model because I know it to be a good make but more importantly for me, its weight ~ less than 700g. I'm not interested in fancy kettles or coloured ones. I wanted a kettle that I could lift easily because I have a muscle wasting disorder and any extra weight causes problems for me. It's a neat little unit and takes up very little space. I also wanted a fluid window that faced me, most people are right-handed. Many of the other kettles had the window where the handle is, so not much help. The kettle works well and I am very happy with the function ie it boils as expected, is not very noisy. As it's new, the lid is a bit stiff so you need to be careful with it. There was no leakage or dripping when pouring. I took off 1star because the writing on the fluid window is hopeless. As soon as I knew the kettle worked ok, I used a broad Sharpie pen to mark my volume. Easy to do as I have a Sharpie but I'd have had to get one or use some type of tape. They need to sort this out, especially as I suppose the kettle is aimed at people like me, older, with health issues. I'd certainly recommend it.

I've got tired of buying more expensive kettles which then break after just a few months, so I decided just get a very basic one. This one cost me around a tenner and it does exactly what I need a kettle to do - boil water. Its very basic but has a water level indicator, a nice secure lid, and a spout that doesn't dribble or allow too much water out too quickly. The only "down" side is that the element is exposed rather than under a plate like on more expensive kettles, which means limescale is probably going to form more quickly - I live in a hard water area so its basically unavoidable, but at this price its not too much of a worry if it eventually becomes so furred up its unusable! Good value for money generally.

Please don't waste your money. The first time I used it, as instructed I filled it and the poured it away to clean it. The lid isn't tight at all and water poured out all over my work space. The base is so light that if you don't lift the kettle absolutely vertically, it won't disengage and is lifted with the kettle. A week in, while filling a jug with boiling water, the top sprung open and flooded the worktop with boiling water. Really dangerous. There is no catch on the lid, you just click the lid over a lip in the kettle, relying on the spring plastic lid to hold it closed. Terrible design and dangerous, please avois.
