DEFY Ultra

I bought the stain after we installed a wood swing set in the yard. I wanted to protect it and have the set last longer than kids would be using it for. I have seen too many wood sets falling apart in friend's yard because the never took any steps to protect the wood. This stain will NOT work in one of those cheap home depot pump sprayers. Messy lesson learned. It went on just fine with a roller (just for the roof where I couldn't reach with a brush) and wide brush. After two coats, the swing set looked better than the day it was installed and in fact looked like a fancier more expensive set! It has been two years and it still looks great. It is worth the $$ as I do not have to re-apply the stain every year. We are in NJ where we had a very wet summer, and no warping or other issues with the wood. I would definitely purchase again when I want to apply another coat.

We now use this finish on all of our decking, fences and trim. Nice sheen. Super durable. Easy and forgiving to apply including between deck board edges. 6" roller works nicely. Maintains its sheen. Each to clean. Best sealer/finish I have every used.

It is so hard to choose a fence stain brand. I researched for months before choosing Defy. I mixed light walnut with butternut and had good results. I hired professionals to clean with the defy cleaner and apply the stain. They used a combination of sprayer and paint brush to apply. They commented that the stain was easy to apply but you need to move quickly as the second coat needs to be applied after 20 mins. So far so good. It looks like new after humid and wet weather in the southeast. Made my pressure treated pine fence look fantastic! I love the slight shine of two coats. I’d recommend this stain to others for quality and ease of use. I plan on staining the columns in the pic with the pine color. Looking forward to a beautiful finish.

This was our second try with this product because it had such good reviews. Last year it got wet the first night we applied so we thought we did it incorrectly, it peeled and bubbled but we thought it was our fault. This year, we applied on dry days, sprayed it on in two coats. We waited three days between coats to ensure it was dry. Sprayed on days it was in the 70's. First rain was 5 days after application and it was still sticky before rain and bubbled up in the rain. The top layer does not seem to be bonded to the first. You can move the top layer around. We have spent over $2000 for this expensive product and the deck is a mess.

I have used this stain on my western red cedar home since 2015. It is the ONLY stain that prevents the black mold and mildew my home previously got every two years when using numerous other brands of oil based stains. If you prepare the wood properly and follow the application instructions for the Defy stain, I believe you will be very impressed with the results. My cedar is vertical and has been on the house since 2000. After using other products for years, I discovered Defy in 2015. We used it on the entire 3 story house and 2 story garage. I finally had the stain re-done in fall 2024. This is the ONLY product that didn’t cause the wood to get the black mold and mildew after it wore off. All we needed to do was a quick wash (very low/practically no pressure) then a quick light sanding and applied the stain. I HIGHLY recommend this stain. I have also used it on my pressure treated decking.

I love this product and have reordered it. Sadly it is shipped USPS which means it is late and I have to drive miles to pick it up. I am trying to find a store to buy it locally or ships UPS.

Just used this to stain half of my deck. Looks great and based on previous experience it will last very well. So why only 3 stars? Well, I measured my deck, bought as much as I should need based on their coverage numbers, used the application method from their video, and it only covered _half_ the deck. If you get this you should plan on twice as much stain as they specify, and hence double the cost.

Time will tell for durability but the Color swatch and color of stain is dead on, easy shake well and pour, nice consistency. I think this will be great!

This stain is like magic. Utterly transformed the weathered wood pillars under our deck.

After researching for the best stain that would last more than 2 years and goes on easy, DEFY came up as the winner. However, after a few months since staining both my front and rear decks, the stain is fading and coming off, especially on the stairs. I applied the stain on 1 year old treated wood and did my due diligence with the prep work. I paid a premium thinking I was getting the best stain out there and now regret my decision. DEFY is no better than any other stain on the market. Don't buy into their hype and save your money.
