''Emily Oster is the non-judgemental girlfriend holding our hand and guiding us through pregnancy and motherhood. She has done the work to get us the hard facts in a soft, understandable way'' Amy SchumerParenting is full of decisions, nearly all of which can be agonized over. There is an abundance of often-conflicting advice hurled at you from doctors, family, friends, and strangers on the internet. But the benefits of these choices can be overstated, and the trade-offs can be profound. How do you make your own best decision? Armed with the data, Oster finds that the conventional wisdom doesn''t always hold up. She debunks myths and offers non-judgemental ways to consider our options in light of the facts. Cribsheet is a thinking parent''s guide that empowers us to make better, less fraught decisions - and stay sane in the years before preschool.*Now you can navigate the primary school years with Emily Oster too, in her new book The Family Firm, out now* Review: Must Buy - Must Purchase for all new parents. It gives new perspective to parenting. Review: Easy to read summary of latest research in child development - The highlight of the book for me was that the author didn't make any grand pronouncements. Also I found her approach concerning cost benefit of different parenting styles very much relevant.

Theoretical but may not be applicable
The book tries to give evidence based advice regarding many parental dilemmas, however in most cases ends up telling you to do what suits you best.. Also the perspective is entirely American, majority of the scenarios my not be applicable to indian set ups, logistics and culture at all... So take it with pinch of salt...

Not at all helpful for Indian Parents
After learning that this is a research-backed book, I bought it thinking it would guide me as a first-time mom as to what approach to take in traditional vs. modern ways of upbringing children. But to my disappointment, the book is not culturally suitable for me. Irrespective of the fact that India has nuclear families, our lives are still very much woven with our extended families and how that plays a role in the journey of parenting is something this book fails to note. It's very generalised and at the end of every discussion I felt that the underlying message was - there is no right or wrong way of parenting. Some things work for some and things don't. It is all about trial and error and how you handle your own big emotions when they show up with children. I found reading it a total waste of my time and energy.

Not for Indian parents
After reading good reviews, With a lot of excitement I ordered and started reading this book for some useful insights. But there is NOTHING for Indian parents. TRUST ME WITH THIS, IF YOU ARE AN INDIAN PARENT, DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME READING THIS BOOK. Emily is beating around the bush, no conclusive details, no advice nothing. Itotal wastage of money and time. Disappoint only.

A must read
Highly recommended. It's no "in my opinion" or "my grandma told me" nonsense you read elsewhere. This is evidence-based talk deeply grounded in science. Cheery on the cake, it's very well written, easy to digest, and very hard to put down once you start chewing through the pages.
