is it compatible with rosetta stone software?

I use it for Dragon Voice recognition software, and they work extremely well. I am assuming that Rosetta Stone software is quite like the Dragon software. My educated guess is that they will work perfectly with Rosetta Stone software.

What kind of plug does it have - RCS jacks, USB or other?

The audio plug is a standard 3.5mm stereo such that will plug into typical laptop's headphone port. There's a second 3.5mm plug for the voice input side. The cord is 8 ft. long.

Is this good with Rosetta Stone?

I don't have experience with Rosetta Stone, but I like my Koss CS100. I'm using it for skype to talk to people around the world and everything is clear and the sound is good.

Does it matter which of the two plugs you put into each of the two ports or are they interchangeable?

Yes, it matters very much. The gray one is the microphone, the black is the headphone. Period.
