Great quality stainless steel phin at ideal 8oz size for making Vietnamese coffee/Thai ice tea
These stainless steel phins by Thang Long are excellent. I ordered a pair for myself and gifted others to two separate people. Many Vietnamese use aluminum phins, but the problem with aluminum is that it can leach into one's hot drink and cause dementia and other illnesses later on.. This does not happen with top quality stainless steel. I ordered the 8oz size, which is the "medium" size that is considered "standard" in Vietnam. The 6oz. size is too small in size and this here size feels a bit too small for me, but it is the standard size, and larger sizes apparently have a design flaw where the push down gravity insert does not fit snuggly within the filter pot portion of the 4-piece phin assembly. Coffee grounds did not fall into the cup and the heat level was fine. Recommend you pre-heat phin before using with 205 degree water, then discard the water in the glass cup (cool off that water first in some container; you don't want to hurt your pipes pouring 205 degree water in the pipes). Also, if the grounds are too coarse, the water will pour through the coffee in less than a minute. If the coarse setting is too fine, it will take forever for the water to pour through the coffee. You want about medium coarse so that it takes 4-5 minutes for the water to drip through the coffee grounds on top of the sweetened condensed milk that is traditionally sitting at the bottom of the transparent glass cup that you should use when making Vietnamese coffee so you can enjoy the drip. This phin comes with instructions on how to use. To discard the used coffee grounds (do not though into sink or toilet or you will clog the pipes and have to spend hundreds in a plumber) lay a sheet of bounty on a flat surface and with another half-piece or quarter-piece of dry bounty, slide the used coffee grounds from all of the phin parts that have coffee, then discard them inside the garbage (again, never down a sink or toilet, NEVER!).

Great coffee filter!
I’ve ordered this twice because it’s such a great and easy product. If you lose one piece though, it is not really going to work correctly. Great to have in the summer for iced Vietnamese coffee. I always measure since if you put too much it’ll be bitter. And I always use the cafe du monde coffee. Just a great combination! So happy with this product

A cute and efficient brewer with very easy instructions
I have been wanting to try this style of coffee brewing for a long time and finally got to try it. Bought the smallest size (4oz) because I tend not to drink too much coffee in one sitting. I had a bit of trouble getting used to it at first and made pretty weak cups, even though I used the recommended medium-coarse grind. Contacted the seller, who was super helpful with explaining how it's supposed to work, and even offered to send me the screw-down version (the 8 oz) since I mentioned the trouble I had with getting the gravity insert to stay in place. Tried to experiment with both models but both produced weak coffee despite my efforts, so I tried grinding finer. That only made the coffee stall, until finally I decided to actually *read* the directions, instead of just skimming through it and trial-and-erroring it like I'd been doing (like I do with *all* of my coffee gear). Turns out I was packing too tightly for the finer grind, which was a bigger problem for the screw-down model since it locked the water in place, whereas the gravity model had more space to go, but it was slower like the instructions said. After some practice and being careful not to pack too tightly with my finer grind, I found that I was able to produce nice, rich cups with both models, though I have to give extra points to the gravity model for allowing the coffee enough room to bloom and enough space for the liquid to drip through. The screw-down model, I found, was pretty easy to mess up and needed a bit more precision working to make sure the liquid is able to drip through without making the coffee too weak. As far as taste is concerned, I really enjoy the strength these brewers are able to produce, and the texture is really something else. I've always preferred a heavier body for my brews, and this style of brewing definitely suits me. I'm always looking for ways to make espresso-like drinks on the go, and this one seems quite promising. Definitely gonna add more to my gear collection soon! TL;DR: Took some practice, but works great and makes great strong coffee.

Great coffee!
This is the second Phin Ive ordered from amazon this week. BOTH work flawlessly. yes, as some lower rating state, the some of the grounds come up over the top plate...and NO..its not a big deal at all. I used 3 level 1TBS coffee scoops and a full phin of steaming water and it made a fantastic cup from the first attempt. For the few bad reviews you might see here, either they got a defective phin...possible...or they arent using it right somehow. When the directions are followed this phin, both of mine i bought this week, make a great cup of coffee and not a lot of fine grounds get into your coffee either. And this is great because you can actually put a paper filter between the phin plate and the phin filter cup, which worked great when i tried it, just slower brew time. and yes, this isnt a $50 model....but for the money is works perfect and VERY much happy with it. 5 stars

I've been using a phin for years now and imo it is the best coffee maker you can have. Economical, zero consumables, easily cleaned. The one drawback is that they are typically quite small. This product ticks all the boxes. It is well made and a generous size. If you are new to using a phin, be aware that it takes longer than other methods. Being around 400ml capacity, you will be waiting between 6 and 10 minutes depending on how fine your grind is. If you want your coffee hot you will need a large, thick mug, or an insulated mug. I was especially impressed that the spreader is not fixed, allowing you to use either a tall narrow cup or a larger diameter one. Comes with clear instructions, but you don't need to make your coffee Vietnamese style with condensed milk.

After using this for my morning ritual over the last month, I’ve found it to be a great way to achieve a bold cofffee without an expensive machine. The capacity is a perfect medium size, providing a generous single serving that holds up well to the addition of ice and condensed milk. What I like Gravity Insert: Unlike screw-down versions that can be finicky, this gravity insert is much easier to use. Just put it on top of the grounds, and it provides the perfect amount of pressure for a steady drip. Durable: The stainless steel construction feels substantial and high-quality. It has handled daily use and frequent trips through the dishwasher without any signs of tarnishing or rust. Zero Waste: I love that it requires no paper filters, which saves some money but really gives the coffee richness. Compact: Just four lightweight pieces that stack together, making it great where space is limited. What I don't like Sediment Levels: Because the metal mesh is permanent, you will occasionally find a small amount of fine sediment at the bottom of your cup, especially if your coffee is ground too fine. Patience Required: This is not a fast brewing method. It takes about 5 to 7 minutes, so it may not be the best choice if you are in a major rush during their morning commute.

Extrae el 100% del sabor del café. Si usas un buen café de grano, lo mueles a tu gusto y lo disfrutarás plenamente. El estilo vietnamita es agregar leche condensada, en mi caso siento que malogras el sabor de un buen grano, pero es cuestión de gustos
