Cary Grant (INDISCREET) stars in one of his funniest roles as a boozy beachcomber sitting out WWII in peace until the Allies recruit him to be a lookout on the South Pacific isle. During an enemy attack, he answers a distress call and discovers a beautiful French schoolmarm (Leslie Caron) and her seven girl students. And so begins a hilarious battle of the sexes between the messy American, the prim mademoiselle and seven mischievous little girls. Who will win is anybody's guess, but you can be sure that Father Goose delivers plenty of romantic fun and adventure along the way. Review: Reviews. - Another classic of Cary Grants. Really good movie. Had to have it for my collections. I can watch over and over. Funny, good acting, war time shots. Well worth the money. Review: First class acting and story. - Cary Grant is perfect in this film. Excellent story. Good value.

One of Cary Grant's Best Films!
Father Goose is one of those movies that Hollywood doesn’t make anymore now days with all the sex, drugs and CGI generated violence. This 1965 classis has everything going for it, an exotic location, and a clever story line with an honest to goodness plot and very interesting characters. This would be Cary Grant’s next to last appearance and he delivers. Set in early 1942 around the New Georgia islands, the allied forces are making an orderly withdraw south towards Darwin, Australia while the Imperial Japanese Army and Navy advance relentlessly towards them. Some viewers may find this setting a bit peculiar if not macabre for a comedy of this caliber but it works and after viewing this film many times over there is no other way to portray this story. It simply just works. Gary Grant plays our hero, Walter Elkland (code name Father Goose and The Filthy Beast), a schoolteacher who is running away from his past. Our heroin, Leslie Caron as Catherine Louise Marie Ernestine Freneau (code name Goody Two Shoes) is the spinster daughter of the French Consulate in charge of seven children whose parents are also diplomats fleeing the Japanese. There is great chemistry between Caron and Grant, but as usual, Hollywood keeps casting younger women as love interest to aged leading men. This would have been a great part for someone like Katharine Hepburn or Rosalind Russell. Trevor Howard as usual delivers a splendid performance as Commander Frank Houghton (code name Big Bad Wolf) and Jack Good as Lieutenant Stebbings (code name Bo Peep) is the perfect straight man opposite to Howard. The chemistry is magnificent. The real stars of this film are the seven children; Sharyl Locke as Jenny, Pip Sparke as Anne, Verina Greenlaw as Christine, Stephanie Berrington as Elizabeth Anderson, Jennifer Berrington as Harriet "Harry" MacGregor, and sisters Laurelle Felsette as Angelique and Nicole Felsette as Dominique. Simply smashing! Father Goose is a film that everyone can view without fear of any awkward moments. Yes there is plenty of sexual innuendo, but that is the genius of this motion picture, you don’t have to spell it out like they do now days graphically illustrating each and every moment. There is a cretin level of creativity where one dosen’t have to put everything in your face and thus dance around the issue dropping subtle hints to lead the viewer on to make their own conclusions. I give Father Goose mega thumbs up. It is hoped that some creative playwright will adapt this story for the stage; it has tremendous potential. Therefore, in conclusion, Father Goose is real gem of a movie that can be enjoyed by everyone with a big heaping bowl of your favorite popcorn smothered in arterial clogging theater butter. Fin!

Great Actors and acting with fun and humor without the use of foul language.
If you are looking for fun movies with great actors and great story lines look no further. This is one of those movies. While it maybe old and outdated to a lot of young people I find myself and may wife still watching it over and over again. It has no hard use of foul language, unlike a number of today's movies which try to come off funny and hilarious. The actors in this movie actually act and back in those days you didn't have the luxury of doing a lot of retakes. So if you are looking for a real family, heart felt and funny movie this one fills the bill.
