I Made the Right Choice
This was a well considered choice, and ultimately the best choice. I read the PC Magazine printer reviews, and this printer was graded "excellent." The Amazon reviews here are all over the place, and the summary was particularly disparaging. Bottom line: PC Mag rated this printer very high, and a significant 71% of Amazon reviews were 5 star, with only 10% being 1 star reviews. This was a very good buy for me. The setup was straightforward, but as I have never installed any sort of computer component before, it wasn't intuitive to me. Still, it isn't a complicated machine, and it is not completely dissimilar to the HP I had been using. It took me a while to understand which part was which, but the instructions (online, the videos, plus the paper instructions) were sufficient. Connecting the printer to my Wi-Fi was a breeze, as was connecting my phone and tablet to the printer. It makes various little whirring and clicking sounds when it receives a prompt, but it's not loud. It's roughly the same size as my old HP but weighs a little less. The profile of the printer is sleek and inconspicuous. Print speed is good. Clarity of the print is also quite good. I read a couple of reviews that begrudged having to use their app, but the app is pretty small and is sparing in storage use. No complaints here. I expect this printer to be with me for a long time. It's fairly priced and more than worth the cost.

So far, so good!!! Update: better and better
I bought this printer mainly for printing ID cards using brainstorm's MP tray. It works beautifully; see the video. The print is almost perfect, with the exception of a little Cyan ink spill on top of the reverse side (not shown). I also printed some 5x7 photos, and they are slightly better than my HP OfficeJet 3830. It appears that this printer prints with a higher resolution. To be fair, I was using the Canon Photo Paper Plus Glossy II on both printers. Here are the bad parts Canon can improve (if they care): 1. The LED/LCD screen is almost NOT readable! I thought I had received a lemon and was about ready to return it. Now I can get by with a flashlight, hahaha! 2. The WiFi setup instructions suck, big time! Canon video instruction also sucks! I ended up watching a video that shows how you can connect it with onscreen instructions to do it manually. P.S. the setup process does not work with dual-band WiFi. Just spend a minute to do it manually by entering the password for your WiFi, a minor hassle. Other than that, the printer is excellent (so far)! 1. Good print quality 2. Large input tray, plus top loading 3. Multipurpose tray for CD (included) and ID badge from the third party 4. Relatively fast 5. Cheap (not sure about the ink yet) Update (02-08-23): I tested it with 120 lbs 325 GSM cardstock, and amazingly it works beautifully! Settings: 5x7, rear tray, cardstock, best quality. Another pleasant surprise - the printer prints 2-sided documents pretty fast. The draft quality looks fantastic. Lastly, the bundled ink lasts for a long time. I printed 10+ full-color 5x7 photos, and it is still 1/3 being used. Will see. If you are not 100% happy with any desktop inkjet printers that are 3 years or older, recycle them and get this one. :) P.S. this may be true for any newer models, Epson, HP, Brother, etc. Technology is just making them so much better nowadays. I chose Canon because of its multipurpose tray.

WiFi connectivity issues solved.
I had to get help from a tech savvy person and apparently it was my T-Mobile WiFi I needed to do some tweaking and set up with a second WiFi. Got it to work and quality is amazing. The screen doesn’t light up which makes it hard to read but other that it’s quite straight forward. The software is great. Was having trouble with sizing for dvd case insert but apparently I need different size paper. I tried with letter and A4 but need 11 x17 The printing quality is great but the product does not come with cable to connect to pc and is not connecting to WiFi correctly.

Nightmare.
Addendum to initial review: Words fail to communicate how much I hate this printer. It’s a struggle to make it print every single time. It doesn’t connect when you want it to, it connects via wifi instead of your router when you don’t want it to, it doesn’t recognize that it has paper, it doesn’t recognize that the output tray is all the way out, it needs to have the “OK” button pushed for no apparent reason, it burns through ink really fast, the screen is tiny, dim, and impossible to read without a flashlight, you have to downgrade your network security settings with you internet provider to get it to connect at all (takes hours), or a combination of any or all of these things. Even with a lot a patience, it only succeeds in printing about 60% of the time. I sometimes need to print on glossy label stock. It globs the ink on so thick that it never dries. I had the previous generation of this model before getting this one, and it printed stickers just fine. Dunno why they made that not work on this model. Don’t buy this printer. It will only lead to madness. Apparently there is a way to connect this thing to your WiFi router, but that requires downgrading your WiFi security protocol (?) to an older one. I couldn’t make that work, despite a long customer service call. Failing that, you have to disconnect from your WiFi router and connect directly to the printer instead. That doesn’t really sound like a big deal, but if you frequently print from Google docs or other cloud-based programs it means you have to export a pdf and print that because you can’t be online and connected to the printer at the same time. Initial Review: I bought this printer to replace an older pixma that I used to print metallic labels. The old one worked great, this one gobs on the ink so heavily in “highest quality” (same program, same settings as the old one) that it never dries. On “medium quality” it doesn’t cover solidly. I hate it more every time I use it

Custom setup is a challenge
I picked this printer because it will used almost exclusively for color printing and it uses multiple color cartridges which can be purchased with higher capacity. Most people care about print quality and I haven't had it long enough. However there is a lot to dislike with the setup. The LCD is almost impossible to read and is not backlit. The manual setting menu on the device is challenging at best. I tried resetting the IP address on the panel and it was so difficult as to be unusable. Both from a setting standpoint and being able to read the display. I had to turn on the flashlight on phone to even see the display. I finally tried to figure out the web interface, again much more complicated than it should be. First challenge was figuring out the admin password. After some google searching I tried the serial number on the back of the printer which is in really small print. It worked. The web interface is also not clear but I was manually able to reset the IP address. I am using it on the LAN (yes, it has ethernet) so I don't know how difficult it will be set up WIFI. I can't image trying to type in the WIFI password on the almost unusable LCD screen. I tried downloading the printer management software and it didn't help with any of the more technical settings. I wanted to reset the printer admin password and I can't figure out where that setting is. I think this could be a decent printer for the money if they can figure out how to manage the setup. It comes with a set of standard cartridges. After running the printer alignment it was already about 15% used. I had a TS9020 that lasted about 3 years then decided to stop working with an error code. We liked that printer which is why we purchased this one. We have a brother laser printer that scans so we didn't need another all in one device. Follow up to my original review: My wife had done some printing. The quality is ok to good. She prints a lot from Cricket software. I can't find a setting in cricket print function to pull from the back tray. I had to set the printer preferences in the computer setup to always pull from the back tray. Another update: We have had it almost a year. It is used exclusively for infrequent color printing. We have a brother multifunction laser for black and white. The picture quality is good and she frequently uses card stock from the back tray. My wife is happy with with the printer. I am increasing it 4 start. If the setup and LCD were not such a pain I would give 5 stars. It just dropped in price.

No need to look further
Can’t say enough about this printer. I returned one purchased from another company due to connectivity issues. This printer fired right up, stays on so it’s ready to do the job without waiting for start up. It was very easy to connect to our wifi, I’m just so impressed!
