Stillness Speaks

Have reviewed this book before but feel compelled to say it again! This book is wisdom, not more knowledge, and is still exposing more depth as the eyes grow accustomed to the light.Old habit of underlining important parts of a good book is an old satisfying habit. After reading the first few paragraphs quickly realized it would be necessary to underline the whole book, so made no underlines. My only book with no underlines. It's a definite keeper and have purchased copies of it on tape and CD for frequent listening...so very satisfying, comforting and reassuring when the conditioned thought processes seem to erupt and attempt to reestablish the tierany of the "false king". Strongest pointers to inside Truth I have found.Wishing for you a similar experience.

This book is really good for helping you remember to stay in the present and why it is important. As the book states, the passages are meant to be quietly considered as you read them. This isn't a book to be plowed through. It is wonderful as a devotional or meditation resource. If you are religious, it isn't meant to replace your beliefs, it only serves to enrich those beliefs by adding a new level of awareness to the experience. Reading the Power of Now prior to this one isn't necessary, but it might explain some of the brief entries found here (if you even need that). My advice: grasp the simplicity of the overall message, don't force it, and enjoy the present!

Wow!! This book is amazing. My best advice it to read the introduction! (I'm one who's typically bad about just jumping in to a book and not reading the intro.) This is not a book that you read from cover-to-cover and put down again. Rather, it's a book that you'd pick up; read a passage; then think about what he's saying. It's not a book that gives you solutions. The solutions come to you as you read and think about what you've read. It has reached me on a very deep level and given me a sense of peace. I have been able to put down all of my facades and truly connect with and love my true self. I've also connected with my boyfriend on a deeper level. Life is so much more amazing when you live in the Now.

One of these books got lost don’t know which one. But I like reading this author. He a little out there but makes some profound statements in his books. He talks about stuff one can’t measure but make a lot of sense about out personally and spirit. I believe most of what he says the parts I don’t understand just let soak in and believe it will show up again when I’m ready for it. Tks

If you're looking for a deeper understanding to spirituality, this small book might be what will help you. Having been steeped in religious tradition for over 60 years, I can give testimony that there is another dimension beyond rules, right and wrong and the obsolete, dry halls of most churches in America. Find your true sacredness, and true worth in discovering life can be experienced beyond what the insanity of your mind is telling you. You can find peace and stillness all around you, but you have to want it bad enough to look in areas you didn't know were there. Stillness Speaks can help you with your discovery in your journey.This book is not meant to be read in one or two or three reading sessions. It's meant to be read very slowly and mindfully. Read only a page or paragraph at a time. These spiritual Sutra's are meant to shock you into being aware of your true spiritual nature waiting to emerge.

Although A New Earth and Power of Now are the most popular, Stillness Speaks is my favorite of his work. Take this book hiking, camping, or for meditation! His writing is pure magic.The air that you breathe is nature, as is the breathing process itself. Bring your attention to your breathing and realize that you are not doing it. It is the breath of nature. If you had to remember to breathe, you would soon die, and if you tried to stop breathing, nature would prevail.You reconnect with nature in the most intimate and powerful way by becoming aware of your breathing and learning to hold your attention there. This is a healing and deeply empowering thing to do. Much more than a self-help book or a book of daily affirmations. The words in this book are truth. I try to live my life in the present. When my mind and ego sneak me out if the present I just remember Tolle"s tip to become the observer of my thoughts. I have been through cancer and several other health scares that caused me a lot of stress and worry. The words in this book put you in the present. If there is one thing I know, it's that NOTHING I forecast or worried over EVER turned out like my vivid runaway imagination and fears ever predicted. So WHY live in pain and fear??? Take each moment as it comes. Moment by moment. YOU are not your thoughts. This book is truth!

I really love this book. It's one of Eckhart Tolle's best, in my opinion. I especially like the Walker Larger Print format. I've been having eye problems, and this is so easy to read. Another advantage of the large print is that it's easier to find the parts I marked that I want to return to. It's so easy to use like a study guide, and to have room to write in the margins, etc. I have shared this book with several friends, so it's been like our own little book club. Whether you read the regular format of the book or the large print, it is a very satisfying book to read and to return to again and again.

An easy to read book with tons of teachings to improve our life in the short term, short and concrete.

Eckhart Tolle...simple the best there is!

私はエックハルト・トールという人を知りませんでしたが、たまたまレンタル店でウエイン・ダイアーとの対談DVDを見つけ、試しに見てみたのがこの人を知るきっかけでした。見ると驚くとともに感動と力が湧いてきて、是非著書も読みたいと思い邦訳を店頭で見てみましたが、最初に映像に触れたために邦訳は何か違和感があり、原書に挑戦する事にしました。内容はとても素晴らしいものです。私は長年仏教に親しみ、特に禅宗と上座仏教の本を読み続けてきました。また坐禅会にも参加してきました。しかしわからない事は多く、「上智下愚を論ぜず、利人鈍者を簡ぶことなかれ」とは言いますが、自分はこの程度なのだろうと半ば諦めかけていました。しかしこの人の著書や映像を見て、それは違う事がはっきりとわかりました。仏教やキリスト教、あるいは哲学や心理学等の、様々な事が私の中で初めて有機的につながりました。皆さんが心配されるのは英語の難しさだと思いますが、英語自体はそれほど難しくありません。辞書と首っ引きという事もありません。なので多くの方に是非原書で、エックハルトの生の文章を読んで戴きたいと思います。
