VERY SOLID AND TUFF !
After reviewing various types of residential door blocks, I decided to purchase Nightlocks for my home's 4 exterior doors. Thru my research, I found that items like "dead-bolt" locks on doors can be picked or easily kicked-in due to weak door jam wood that the dead-bolt goes into. I wanted to install something on the (inside) of the door that crooks and home-invaders could not access from the outside and that would keep the door from opening at all. When I recieved my nightlocks, made of extruded structural aluminum, it was evident that these floor-mounted door blocks are built tuff. They are easy to install on the floor and very easy to slide out and back in. They also look attractive and are not noticeable much. I feel better about having these on all 4 of my doors. I would propose that it would take a whole lot of kicks from the outside of the door before these devices would let-go. They truely are tuff and sturdy and give a much needed security enhancement to any door, especially at night when I am asleep. Again, a good kick can compromise a dead-bolt. I dont think it will compromise a nightlock. Just my honest opinion.

Easy to install and appears to work well
Of course, the only real way to test this product is to attempt to kick down my door with the night lock installed, and I'm not going to try that! However, after installing this on all my exterior doors, I did pull very hard on the door with the deadbolts unlocked and the door nob twisted open, so the only thing keeping the door from opening was the nightlock, and it held very well. Based on this, I think in an attempted break it, it may not prevent someone from entering the home, but it would slow them down for a bit and give you more time to react (as in getting your gun and being ready for them!). The product was easy to install, only took a few minutes. I installed 2 on wood floors and one over carpet. The wood floor ones are super secure. I think the one on carpet is as well, but maybe at 90%. Because of the c arpet, the night lock can't be secured directly to the floor from the thickness of the carpet. There is a space between the bottom of the night lock plate and the subfloor under the carpet. Because it's not flush, it probably doesn't secure the door quite as well as the ones directly attached to wood flooring. However, I think it's still better than not having one at all and should still slow someone down. Overall, not an expensive investment to add extra security to your home.

Very well engineered; secure and easy to install solidly on any door
I was very concerned that this would not install securely on my backyard French door. One size fits all usually means it's going to be a problem. I was very pleasantly surprised when I placed it against my door and realized that it is engineered to install snugly against anything that could be considered a door. The included hardware is more than secure enough for any purpose. This is meant to stop a bash and enter break in. Longer screws or gluing the plate to the floor are adding nothing to the security. There is no way that the supplied screws are going to be ripped out before the intruder gives up or you hear the tremendous noise of someone trying to get past this thing. The supplied hardware is excellent. Installation is very easy. The design makes it very hard to install incorrectly. You just snug it up to the door, use an ice pick to mark the center of the center hole. Drill the 3/16" pilot hole into the mark. Screw in the center screw. Double check the alignment (it is not very fussy), then screw in the left and right screws. It is very difficult to do it wrong. A drill, an ice pick to mark the first hole, a 3/16" drill bit, vacuum cleaner (handy to remove wood dust), and an impact driver for driving the screws are all that I used. You could certainly screw this in by hand after drilling the pilot hole as well, but it is very convenient to have an impact driver to speed things up. That's it. I ordered a second one for the front door. When not in use it is inconspicuous. Guests are not likely to see much of interest. And when in use it's bedtime. Fantastic! Much better than I expected given the one size fits all designs.

Sturdy and ready for direct mount on wood floors. May need longer screws for mounting on tile over concrete.
This unit appears to be sufficiently solid to stop a burglar from kicking in the door. The 2 inch screws supplied would work OK for direct mounting on a wood floor. We are security enthusiasts that focus on preventing break-ins and not on alarms that indicate a break-in when it is too late for security. My flooring base is post-tensioned concrete which is really solid and extremely strong. However,I have thick ceramic tile on a mortar base which means that strong concrete is about 1 inch below the top of the tile. That tile and mortar may not provide much lateral strength and 2 inch screws would not penetrate much into the concrete after going through the plate, tile, then mortar and finally that concrete. Therefore I upgraded the screws to a 14 size flat head, high shear-force grade of stainless (1/4 inch diameter) that are 3 inches long. I upgraded the screw anchors to the old style lead anchors. It was a challenge (lots of torque) to get those screws flush with the top of the Nightlock unit, even with a liberal amount of WD-40. However, the longer-fatter screws in the lead anchors do make the unit able to withstand any kicking. I also added a 1/2 inch sliding bar lock near the door handle and bolted that into the house frame with 5/16 inch by 4 inch lag screws. I left sufficient space between the Nighlock plate and the door and am adding a 1/4 inch thick aluminum plate over the whole door interior. That should make the door sufficiently strong to withstand any effort at a break-in including a battering ram. I have added 1/2 inch thick polycarbonate over windows. I hope I never need the fire department to get into the house quickly.

This will definitely foil or slow an intruder
I had a handyman install a Nightlock on each set of my standard issue, weak exterior French doors (I cannot afford to replace the doors with top of the line security models). We installed through porcelain tile for one door and low carpet for the other. My handyman, who is also a building contractor, was impressed with the product. Granted, if you have a weak door frame or your door and lockset hinges have short screws (I reinforced everything with three-inch screws), your door frame will be compromised after repeated forceful battering. But the noise will likely scare away all but the most determined house crasher, and worst case scenario, will rouse everyone and buy you time to put your safe plan in operation. (I have a professional alarm system in case my Nightlocked door is breached, but you could also add DIY alarms to your doors.) For those who cannot afford an alarm system or replacement doors, this simple device buys you a little more peace of mind against picked or destroyed locks, battering, and breaking of glass-inset doors, where all a burglar has to do is then undo your locks. Security is all about LAYERS, and Nightlock adds another layer. IMPORTANT: Make sure every member of your house knows how to slide the bar out of the floor track -- easy -- so that no one is trapped if escape is ever needed. The product is heavy duty, well made, reasonably priced, and blends right in with many decor styles. Four stars instead of 5 because mine has not been tested in a real world situation, and I hope it never is! Just buy it -- and make sure all occupants can operate it -- I can't see how you could go wrong.

Easy Security
Our sunroom, in back of the house, is the obvious target for The Big Break-in. The room has a medium-strength french door (two doors together, with no brace or wall between them), and its appearance seems to invite a bad guy to break it down. So we got a NightLock. The device installed easily. We used the screws that came with it, and the installation was easy, with our 3/4-inch hardwood floor. When we attempt to open the door from outside, there is a little slack at first. Then the door encounters an immovable object at its bottom (the NightLock). I ain't gonna be able to kick this door in. Even if I break the doors' glass, now what? It's strong glass, and I am not going to be able to penetrate before the owner has time to read America's Second Amendment to me. Our peace of mind has gone way up. I like that we can slide the slide with our foot, and we never have to bend over. The slide never comes out of the base, because we inserted a tiny stopping screw most of the way down into the 3/4" hardwood floor, forming an almost invisible stopper on each side. (Works great.)

Works for Double Doors Too
We have a double front door and in the past under a very strong wind they have been known to blow open. The passive door is not well secured so we have been uneasy about the doors. We found this product and it was exactly what we needed. I installed it in the center so it secures both doors. It is securely attached to the floor and the construction is simple and well made. Follow the installation tips they offer and it should work fine. I would recommend you make double sure the door will clear the floor plate BEFORE you do any screwing in, cause you don't want a hitch every time you open the door and you'll be able to return the product easier. I did a few things to help us. 1. I put a piece of adhesive felt (previously purchased on Amazon) on the face touching the door just to reduce future marring from the sliding off and on and to insure it fits snugly to the door. 2. Since it is a double door installation I put bright tape on the center of the two doors and on the product so we can quickly tell if the sliding piece is in the "locked" position. My only beef is with Amazon: They feature the brushed nickel and bronze version of "The Real Nightlock" but they don't offer the "Bright Brass" version which I would have preferred to match my door hardware. You apparently can go directly to the Nightlock site to order that color...I found this out too late.

Extra door security at an inexpensive price.
We already have a Nightlock Door Barricade on our French Patio Doors. It has worked flawlessly for years. I recently had a new front door installed and decided to upgrade the security of the door. This is almost the easiest way to keep intruders from breaking in easily through a door, without having big metal brackets hanging on the door trim, and/or big heavy planks you have to move all the time. We had to trim the bottom of the door to allow for clearance of the bottom piece of the security bracket, but after that was done it was easy to drill and set the three provided screws. We offset ours a little, from where it would normally be, so we can just slide the movable part of the bracket to the side, and it is still slightly engaged in the lower bracket, but allows the door to clear it. That way we can just slide it back into position with our foot when we are closing the door for the night. Works perfectly. So, bottom line... It will probably stop almost every type of intruder from coming through the front door, but if they're ultra determined to get in they will have made so much noise trying to get past our Nightlock barricaded door that if they do get in, it will be the last mistake of their life. If you get my meaning.

Security plus
The night lock seems very strong, easy to install, and it definitely gives me a higher sense of security. Easy to install but we did need a powerful drill to get through our tile flooring
