The two sides off two levels of scratching, both very effective whether just digging in a little, or really going to town. Or, it has a fixed length that doesn't quite reach all the way to that spot on your back that is just killing you--but at he same time is too long to store anywhere convenient? Throw it away. This baby does both with ease. The long-prong side is so effective you can even get in some serious scratching right over your shirt, for more discreet scratching. I bought this as a back scratcher for our dogs. They absolutely love it! It saves our back from bending over to continuously pet them. I love the long, extendable reach and then it retracts so it is portable and lightweight. I can scratch my dog's back while relaxing on the couch or in bed and it reaches her on her dog bed, on the floor. The extendable pole is strong and has not bent. It has two different sides to scratcher, a harder, more pointed side which is great for scratching that stubborn itch and a smaller, rounded nub side that is great for just a nice back rub. Plus, it glows in the dark so it is easy to find at night. My husband purchased one for himself and then realized the dog's loved it just as much, so we purchased one for them. Now everyone's happy, lol.

TLDR: good scratcher, 3.5 in toughness / durability, head is good, scratches well, can lacerate if you go nuts / crazy on scratching. overall does job The review: this thing would be magical if they put a curve on it like those bamboo / wooden / plastic ones. I used the Bearback one, but that broke after 2 yrs of use, and handle broke further so it got turned into a hair brush. The scratching surface is knobbed plastic, tapered to pointy ends, one side long, other side is short. Good scratching and plastic is hard as hand gun polymer. It can lacerate if one gets crazy or scratches too hard. It extends so you can like scratch your foot while standing up or something. The metal is pretty good, but it tarnishes easy and needs cleaning (daily use, clean about once a month or two) I just use rubbing alcohol and use a bit of mineral oil and extend close it and wipe away the excess. Handle is that hard rubber, so far 2 mo's its holding out (daily use). Works as advertised. The only thing missing is that curved handle baby. To make a curved extension handle would take some thinking and engineering, so maybe they might come out with one, probably not. Any case having two back scratchers on hand is pretty nice. THis also doubles as a good bug smasher, its good vs 3 in roaches, half hand size turbo wolf spider looking thing spiders, 6 in centipedes. Well at least the star tropics area I live in doesn't have super snakes or turbo lizards / monitors or crocs, so can't complain too much.

The thing I like best is that the telescoping handle REALLY holds its place. Much better than previous scratchers that left the business end unmoving if it got hung up in bra straps or such. I like to use the pointier side for outside the clothes and the softer side for more laid back times when that pesky undergarment leaves the scene.

Overall, this product has been great. It is made from material that is strong, sturdy, and the little spikes are not sharp. Instead, they're thick and pointy, which helps get that itch that I was never able to fully get before. The length is great as well. Can do lower back from coming above my shoulders, and can do left shoulder blade from my bottom right side. It is a great back scratcher and definitely worth the money. I even had friends come over and one of them asked if I had a back scratcher, to which I handed them my new handy-dandy Cactus Scratcher. They were all over it!! OVERAL: Great product, easy to use, great length, and better than any of those wooden spoon ideas were grew up with!

This is awkward to use when extended. It would work better if there was some curvature to the handle.
