This is the best of the several excellent hand plane books that I have. Mr. Wynn has a scholarly approach that exhibits much experience, deep knowledge, and a precise writing style that is accurate and thorough. Highly recommended if you want a deep comprehension of how handplanes work and can be optimized by the user.

I have tried on multiple occasions to read this book. It is unreadable.The first chapter doesn't even talk about planes. It talks about microscopic surfaced and spends a great deal of time on the authors technique for SANDING. Not planing, but SANDING.AND it really doesn't get much better.Don't waste your time.And the illustrations are really poor and confusing too.This book SUCKS.

Explain in a very detailed and comprehensible way the knowledge essential to the use of hand planes, supplemented by his own experience. Enjoyable reading with lots and lots of useful illustrations. So far I have been involved in wood carving, I have also started doing carpentry work in the last two years, the book was very useful because I gained a lot of new knowledge which made my work easier and faster.I recommend it to anyone who wants to work with hand planes. The woodworking with hand tools is the very quiet and peaceful.I am glad I bought it, it exceeded all my expectations.

More than I needed or even wanted to know about choosing, tuning and using handplanes. Excellent color photography. A fine and comprehensive reference book.

Good information if your in the market for hand-planes

This is an excellent book providing an introduction to and detailed exploration of hand planes. It includes instructions for plane choice and set up as well as detailed descriptions of how planes actually work.Bonus points are given for the terrific illustrations.

Die Holzbearbeitung ist ein neues Hobby für mich. Dieses Handgerät ist wirklich eine Ingenieurskunst.Das Buch ist eine wahre Fundgrube zum Thema rundum den Hobel. Es läßt keine Fragen offen was das Thema Hobel angeht. Themen wie z.B.: wie ein Hobel funktioniert, die verschiedene Bauteilen und Bauweisen, das Arbeiten mit verschiedenen Winkeln, die verschiedene Verwendungszwecke, wie man ein Hobel einstellt, wie man das Eisen schärft und der erste Hobelkauf werden alle ins Detail abgehandelt.Das Buch ist auf englisch, aber ein "must read" für jeden der sich nur ein bisschen für Hobel interessiert.
