do you need to use the base with the car seat?

No. Bases are made.for.covinience. you technically can use a carseat without the base you just have to know how to properly install the carseat without the base. There's two ways you can do some..the American way or European way( I know there's more to the names I'm.prettt sure) but yeah I just watched a bunch of tutorials on it. Without the base would be for like if you have to do public transportation, if your going from car to car etc.
