I own a welding shop in Derby Kansas and I own three of these chucks. They run mostly R&D work in my Haas CNC mill. Well yes of course they have some run out but it's not excessive. Your mileage may vary and the run out will probably vary depending on what day of the week and the temperature of the Chinese Sweatshop these were made in. Fact of the matter is, it's a bargain price cat 40 chuck and if that's what you want it does a great job at this price point. If you're running Aerospace parts on a million dollar machine you're definitely not looking at drill chuck that cost less than $100 on amazon. These are perfect for using with Edge Finders and general drilling applications. If you need to be that spot on then invest in a quality chuck or collet holder.

This is a very nice drill chuck for my semi-production Hass CNC toolroom mill. I'll be buying another! Now that I've used it a few weeks, I prefer it over trying to mount a drill bit in a collet. I'm reserving the collets for larger bits and a couple of end mills that I use regularly.

It came with an "A style" retention knob, not the one pictured when I bought it, which was convenient because that's the style I wanted. It does have noticeable runout. I'm not sure how much of it was in the spindle so I won't tell my reading, but it was significant. I can run .020" diameter end mills with this spindle, no problem, so it's safe to say that the spindle runs pretty true. With a 3/8 diameter edge finder in the chuck and a good eye, you can see the runout. But for the price I didn't expect it to be close, and I bought it just to use for edge finders and indicators, so I'm happy with it (runout is practically irrelevant with the way edge gyroscopic edge finders work). The description said not to use it for small drills, so they are being upfront and honest about the product. Locking and unlocking is very smooth, especially after giving it a shot of lube. I'm amazed that they can produce a product of this quality for such a low price.

As luck would have it, the stud supplied was correct for my Hurco VMC, not as shown. It is perfect for r&d work where you switch drills mid part. Runs true up to 10k on my machine. I will order more shortly. Repeat order for 2 more key less chucks came with 1 missing. Seller sent second one. It took time, but seller made good in the end.

"CAT40 and Drill are built together, it's one solid piece" Not true. It is actually a drill chuck apparently pressed into a CAT40 V-flang. It seems to work ok but there is the possibility of them coming apart. The rest of the specs on this are probably not correct because it's not what was listed on the site.

I haven’t had a chance to use this tool yet but delivery was sooner than expected and tool looks well made Jerry S.

I’ve seen this question asked a lot. So here’s the answer. I closed the jaws all the way and they fully close. It held a .010 gage pin just fine. Runout with a .200 pin was .001 TIR, and with a .5 pin it read .0055 TIR. The retention knob fit a haas VF2 with no problems. Rotating by hand to clamp down provides plenty of holding power for smaller drills, but I would use the spammer for anything over 5/16. Bearings feel decent, not rough. At this price, buy a couple.
