Petzl E+LITE Headlamp - Ultra-Compact Emergency, 30 Lumens

I bought this for an emergency kit that I'm trying to keep as light weight as possible without sacrificing too much capability. Out of all the lights I personally inspected, this one met my expectations. It weighs in at 0.9oz for the headlight and strap. With the included case it weighs 1.6oz total. The light is compact and offers 2 brightness levels(15lm and 50lm) a red light(not the brightest but usable) and 2 flashing modes(one white, one red) honestly your headlight doesn't need the power of the sun. The 50lm output is sufficient for moving in the dark. Even the 15lm output will light up a dark room enough move around without tripping. The run time of this light is also great considering it takes 2 CR2032 batteries. The batteries aren't the cheapest, but I'm not complaining. When you want the best you have to pay for it, and in my opinion this is the best ultralight headlamp period!

I was nervous about purchasing this lamp after reading reviews on it not having a far reach on trails, and essentially being bad for any type of night hiking. I used this on the Catalina trail for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. We ended up late to our first campsite and had to hike in the dark. Using the stronger white light setting we both had no issues navigating the trail (we each had a petzl) and were able to see far enough ahead on the trail to not trip or feel unsafe. The different lights are nice, we both used the red once in camp and found it very effective to see by, but not blind each other with. It’s very light weight and folds up pretty small. It can be a bit annoying to put back in the carrying case it comes with. I just put mine in a pocket of my pack and it’s been fine.

This is an exceptional product. I purchased it to use as a spare on back country outings where weight is a serious issue. For anyone who has ever done a remote trip with a weight allowance for air movement or a back country hike, they can understand that every ounce matters. I agonize over my gear - which my wife constantly criticizes wondering if using her kitchen scale and spreadsheets to count ounces is actually necessary. Over the years I’ve gotten things down to precisely what I need, and it’s rare I add anything to my kit. This light made the cut - it delivered that beautiful blend of performance and weight. It’s incredibly light and yet it performs on par with much sturdier units powered by a more robust set of batteries. The protective case it comes with makes storing it in my kit as an emergency back-up easy and having it there gives me peace of mind. I don’t go hunting, hiking, camping, or fishing without this piece of equipment. In fact, I like it so much I purchased a second one to keep in my truck so I have it for a just in case.

I just got this lamp, so I can’t possibly report on battery life or long term durability. But I can tell you why I instantly fell in love with this thing! REASON FOR PURCHASE: For exactly what it is - an emergency back-up light source. ACTIVITY: Casual backpacking - never on trail after dark My primary light source is a rechargeable Fenix headlamp, which has more than enough burn time to get me through a multi-day backpacking trip. However, I was still carrying a spare charged battery just in case… …That spare battery weighs 0.7 oz. It has no other function. Just hangs out…. This E+lite, on the other hand, only weighs 0.9 oz. (without the case). AND it can actually DO stuff! *It’s a stand alone spare lamp. And it even has a fold out stand if you like. *It has safety strobe modes in both white and red (which my primary lamp does not). *AND it has a whistle! A whistle that is smaller, louder, and clearer than the 0.3 oz whistle I was already carrying on my pack. And if you’ll notice, the red slider button on the whistle is actually a key that opens the battery compartment! Are you “blown away” yet? *By golly, you could probably even use the headband to hog tie a chipmunk or something! The possibilities are endless! From now on I’ll be leaving that free-loading spare battery at home… It was sorta’ needy anyway…always getting recharged before each trip… Nagging me… It won’t be lonely though, it can hang out with my retired old weak whistle, and their new friend, the Petzl case. Now the case is clever in it’s own way. It has a handy belt loop, even sports a cute illustration of how to signal SOS or OK. It weighs 0.7 oz. I’ll keep it for kayak camping some day. As the lid is held on tightly with a rubber band, so it’s splash proof. But it won’t be necessary for storing the lamp in a handy spot in my pack, as the included lamp stand is also made to fold over and protect the face of the lamp. A great deal of thought and detail went into this little lamp. The switch, while different, is easy to operate. Of course it is not super bright, but it’s not made for trail finding or shining deer. It’s a very adequate SPARE. And the use of pill batteries means it has a long shelf life and it can LIVE in my pack without worry of it leaking battery acid. Always packed and ready to go, and looking out for me in case one day I forget to recharge my regular lamp before a trip, or even forget to pack it!

This is a redesign of one of my favorite lights. It's superlight, extra-small, waterproof to 1m, and the lithium batteries last a long time in an emergency kit. If you own any of the previous models, be aware that the not only has the headband/storage case changed back from the retractable headband to the red plastic case but that the cluster of LEDs has been replaced by a single white LED and an offset red LED. The new LEDs have different run stats, as well. This newest version has lower runtimes and higher lumens. The white light is "cooler" (closer to the blue end of the spectrum) and the beam has a shorter range, but a higher flood, than the previous models. This is the third generation of the product that I own. I carry the previous version with me in my backpack everywhere as it offers more quick convenience. This one will stay in my emergency kit to be used as necessary as it is a bit of a pain to remove/replace the light in the case. While not as convenient as the retractable headband in the previous model it is definitely more comfortable to wear. I have not, yet, been able to successfully store this in the included case without separating the headband from the light body (because I don't want to stretch out the headband prematurely). This is the reason why it got four stars from me, instead of five. I've attached some pics for the first time every so I don't know if I'll be able to caption them. Second pic of white wall appx 15' away. edit: After using the 2017 version of this light for the last week I can confidently say that, while good, I prefer the previous version of this light. The more focused beam of the older model suits my needs better (even if the lumens are lower) as the beam travels further with a more neutral tone. It is also easier to distinguish color. The headband of the newer version is far more comfortable, though. If Petzl ever reads this, I'd like to recommend a revival of the metal clip (so you can affix the light to a cap or strap) that existed in the last, last version of this light.

This compact headlamp is great for camping. Keep in mind, it is only 50 Lumens, so if you are looking for a light that provides visibility at significant distances, this is not your headlamp, but it has been very good for me during two multi-day hikes into the Grand Canyon. I have been able to keep it in the case in my pocket without it being in the way or uncomfortable. One evening, our group was caught on the trail after twilight. One of the members of our group was struggling, so we did not make it to our camping area before it got very dark. It was NOT an ideal situation, as we were still on some pretty technical and narrow rocky trails in the canyon, but I was able to take the lead and navigate the trails with the use of this headlamp. We all had lights, and I wouldn't suggest that this was was necessarily superior to any of the others, but it was certainly the smallest and most convenient, while providing sufficient light to safely make our way to our destination. I am a loyal PETZL user, and very much like this particular little light.

I ordered this as I'm putting together a kit that's lighter than my current kit. My health is fading and I still want to go outside. It comes in a nice case. It's brighter than expected and has a lot of settings. It's a Petzl so I know it's good quality. Batteries are easily replaceable and you can find the button batteries almost everywhere. I've used it on a few overnights and it's still working on the batteries that came in it. I ain't got no problem recommending this little light to everyone.

I accidentally put this headlamp through the washer and the dryer. It works just fine and even looks a bit more shiny now. 'nuff said.

J'adore cette lampe, c'est une de mes frontales préférées ! Elle se distingue des autres modèles que j'ai en plusieurs points : - Utilisation ultra-simple par rotation du levier : il suffit de tourner pour régler la couleur blanche ou rouge, l'éclairage continu ou clignotant et l'intensité. J'ai l'habitude des lampes plus complexes ou il faut faire différentes manipulations (à retenir) sur un bouton poussoir pour obtenir le réglage souhaité (ça oblige de bien connaître la lampe et on peut difficilement la prêter à mamie ou à un enfant en cas de panne de courant !). - Le 1er cran du bouton sert de sécurité anti-allumage involontaire car le levier rotatif est alors hors d'atteinte par un objet touchant la lampe. le 2ème cran n'allumet pas la lampe, il sert juste à dégager le levier afin de pouvoir ensuite le tourner facilement car il dépasse alors du boitier. - La lampe est utilisable en hivers avec des gants, grâce à la conception du bouton évoquée précédemment. - Ce modèle est ultra petit et léger, le seul plus petit que je connaisse chez Petzl est la version de secours avec une cordelette élastique toute fine. Ici le cordon élastique est très peu large par rapport aux frontales habituelles. - Malgré sa petite taille, la lampe est montée sur rotule et peut être orientée dans tous les sens - Le réglage du tour de tête est plus rapide qu'avec les passants de sangle habituels, il suffit d'appuyer sur le bouton de l'élément de serrage à l'arrière de la tête et de tirer sur le cordon. On peut donc la prêter sans soucis. - L'élément de serrage du cordon intègre un sifflet, c'est toujours un plus ! - Utilise 2 piles boutons CR2032. Ces piles au lithium peuvent rester dans la lampe durant des années sans risque d'endommager celle-ci. De plus, il est facile d'en avoir plusieurs de rechange avec soi. Le capot pour accéder aux piles peut se dévisser très facilement grâce au bouton rouge sur le sifflet (ou à une pièce de monnaie j'imagine). Petite astuce : Parce que j'aime les détails, le bout du cordon élastique est cousu à plat et non en forme de boucle. Comme je suis secouriste, je garde toujours cette lampe dans mon sac à dos urbain de tous les jours, et je laisse dépasser ce petit bout de la poche du sac par la fermeture éclair. De l'extérieur on n'y fait pas attention et on pense que c'est juste la languette de la fermeture du sac. L'intérêt pour moi est qu'en pleine nuit j'ai juste à tirer sur cette languette pour retrouver ma lampe sans avoir à fouiller à l'aveugle dans le sac. ;-) Seul point négatif : L'étui fourni est un peu juste pour y faire rentrer la lampe et le cordon. Il faut souvent s'y reprendre à plusieurs fois pour enrouler le cordon et placer le tout de façon adaptée. C'est assez agaçant. Small, lightweight and great for just having as a standby. the headband is narrow and so feels comfortable on my head. It has multi-modes in white or red light and a lock that stops it going on accidentally. Great for emergencies or in a tent. Not sure if I would want to have to night-navigate with such a low lumen light but for emergencies it puts out a good few meters of light and can be used for signalling (flashing modes or white or red light). Spare batteries can be carried easily as they are the size of UK 10p coins.

Als gelegentliche Nutzer einer Kopflampe ist diese hier ideal. Die Batterien laufen nicht aus, somit kann man sie unbesorgt liegen lassen. Sicher taugt die Leuchtkraft nicht für einen Höhlenforscher. Aber abgesehen davon reicht die Lampe für alle möglichen Tätigkeiten, auch zum laufen in absoluter Dunkelheit. Die Lampe ist derart klein und leicht, dass man sie wirklich immer dabei haben kann, wenn man sie auch braucht. Und dann funktioniert sie auch zuverlässig. Das hat sie den teuren, riesigen Scheinwerfern vorraus, die es sonst zu kaufen gibt. Dank des Schalters ist es auch unmöglich, dass sich die Lampe von selbst einschaltet, auch wenn sie in ihre Hülle gestopft wird. In der Hülle ist die Lampe praktisch unkaputtbar vor äusseren Einflüssen geschützt. Mein Fazit: Perfekt für jeden, der nur ab und zu eine Lampe braucht, auf die er sich dann aber auch verlassen muss.
