Great for winter
This rosin was absolutely perfect. It had the grip I wanted for the winter months. It provided a smooth buttery sound and responded very quickly to the string. Very smooth bow stroke. Unfortunately, like most Rosins would, it broke after accidentally sitting on it. I am 100% buying it again

Excellent, unique rosin
This rosin is rather light coloured for a "dark" rosin. It has a lot of grip and is not very powdery--articulation is surprisingly easy. I used to alternate between Andrea Solo and Salchow Dark rosin; I am now comfortable sticking with Melos Dark, except for in cases of big humidity changes when I will sometimes use something different (and ultimately get a rehair). I'd put it somewhere between Andrea Solo and Jade in terms of grip and sound, only much less powdery and with a smoother feel under the hand. It has a clean, pure sound. Give it a try; the price is reasonable. I'm quite pleased with it so far!

New packaging
My cello teacher and I like the dark rosin now attached to the cork container. It will keep it from cracking with use.

I wish I had the opportunity to try out the dark rosin but overall it wasn't horrible experience. I was able to produce a good .
I gave this product four stars was for a few reasons. I thought I had bought the dark rosin which it does say in my recent purchases but upon further inspection, I realized this was a LIGHT rosin ( Be Weary Of Which Rosin You Received ) and not dark. I had been wondering as to why my bow wasn't gripping my cello as well as I had hoped it would. I only recently discovered this little mishap but it actually worked fairly decent. It gave my cello a smoother sound and a more fluent bow control, but since this was a LIGHT Rosin, I had to apply more rosin to my bow than necessary which caused dust to fly everywhere. And as I was playing I could smell a sort of burnt wood smell which wasn't a big problem but I can't say the same for my stand partner :P. I wish I had the opportunity to try out the dark rosin but overall it wasn't horrible experience. I was able to produce a good sound for all three of my concerts and that's the important part. Best wishes to everyone! P.S. A word of caution to people who are careless as me, this is a caked rosin so it is prone to breaking very easily. Like a dummy, I placed my rosin in my backpack only to find a fraction of it broken :( . It's still usable though!

Excellent product
It is, as advertised, soft and easy to put on the strings. I have been using it for a few months now and think it will last at least three more months. Not cheap but worth it.
