I have a 6s plus with a heavy case and it holds it fine. It’s quite sturdy. If the case is very big, I’d check the dimensions though. Mine just fits. Glad I made the purchase. I use it all the time.

Yes it can hold your phone while looking down from an upper position. I will point out though that even though the arm is made out of from what I can tell flexible metal with a coating on the outside the arm itself tends to be wobbly if you touch it if you touch the phone so you switch channels you turn up the volume the phone will tend to shake for a little bit. So I stopped using it for that reason to watch a video in bed but for just putting it on your desk and having it in great spots for convenience it's great.
