Great, fool proof sharpener!
There are about a million (slight exaggerating) knife sharpening tools out there including sticks and stones. Well, sticks and stones may break my bones, but the words, "these sure make my knives sharp" never escape me. I realize there are people out there who can take a 70-year-old knife never sharpened once and a simple sharpening stone and have a knife that can cut through steel. I am not one of those people, but this KitchenIQ 500009 Edge Grip 2 Stage Knife Sharpener* was recommended to me by Amazon when I purchased some knives for my parents. The price was right, and the reviews were strong, so I figured I would just buy one in the process. I am extremely happy with my decision. This sharpener has two grooves--one sharpens dull knives (like mine) and the other just for fine-tuning a sharpened knife. I have had this for about six months now and have used it on all of my knives. They are good knives, but they were poorly sharpened (by me) and have dulled over time as any knife will. This sharpener is so easy to use. Put it on the cabinet, take the knife, run it through the corresponding groove a few times, then you are good. It is tough to mess up with this--if you follow the provided instructions you sharpen both sides at once. My knives are almost as sharp now as they were when I purchased them. Now I regularly use the fine sharpening groove after every few knife uses just to maintain them. You can place this right on your cabinet--it does not slide and is easy to grip on one side. The grooved bottom allows you to place it on the edge of a counter and get a different (better?) angle on the knife when sharpening. I have not used this feature, but I suppose it might be a more natural sharpening angle. To me, just being fool proof is the best part of this sharpener. Thus far, it has held up fine. I would expect it to last for a really long time. It is also easy to store in a drawer--it takes up almost no space. This is just a great little sharpener, and I am glad I found it. *Ever consider a shorter name for your project?

>> DOES THE JOB
> The most important thing I learned reading online reviews of various sharpeners (and articles on knife sharpening) is that the key to using ANY sharpener is a very LIGHT touch. Press harder and you ruin the edge. Just lightly pull your knife through this (or any other sharpener) about 5 times. After ordering this sharpener, I tried the "light-touch" technique on the half-dozen sharpeners in my drawer, and "whala", they ALL worked. So I didn't need the KitchenIQ after all -- but it is a nice little sharpener, and is now my choice. > The KitchenIQ is small -- and so reduces clutter in your gadget drawer. > There is no way to safely hold the KitchenIQ in one hand and your knife in the other hand. You MUST use the KitchenIQ on a countertop. > There is a deep (1/2") V-notch in the back of the KitchenIQ. This is for holding the sharpener at the edge of your counter at about a 45 degree angle -- and it turns out that doing so really makes sharpening knives MUCH easier. > I'm no fanatic about my knives nor sharpening, but I find that 2--3 light swipes once a week through the "fine" notch does the trick. How can you tell if your knife is sharp? If you can cut a ripe tomato with a light sawing motion without crushing it, the knife is sharp. > If your knife is already reasonably sharp (which is probably the case), the "coarse" step is completely unnecessary and may do more harm than good. Try sharpening with the "fine" notch first -- only if that fails try the "coarse" notch. If your knife is very dull and 5 light pulls through "coarse" side, followed by 5 light pulls through the "fine" side, doesn't adequately sharpen it, then it is probably permanently ruined -- discard it and buy a new knife. > Considering a 3-step sharpener? Don't. That's just a phony selling point with no practical merit. > TIPS: Handwash your knifes -- dishwashers ruin the edge (no matter how carefully you place them in the dishwasher). Don't store your knives loose in a drawer. Don't put your knives away while still damp in a wooden (or other) knife holder. ALWAYS use a plastic or wooden cutting board. Never let your knives sit dirty (e.g., with acid tomato juice on them) on the counter for several hours. I hand wash my knives immediately after EVERY use -- even if that turns out to be 5 or 6 times a day -- it just takes a second or two to run them under the faucet. I store them on a magnetic rack.

Great little knife sharpener!
Having a family with multiple food issues means I cook everything from scratch. Cooking from scratch means I spend a great deal of my time chopping and slicing food. Add to that the extensive food preservation I do each year when I harvest my garden, a good set of sharp knives is a necessity. I bought some really good knives several years ago and they truly are a Godsend! However, good knives are a blend of carbon and steel. The steel adds strength while the carbon allows for a sharp edge. The more carbon in a knife, the sharper then edge can be but the more often it needs to be sharpened. I sharpen my knives fairly regularly and have tried many different kinds of sharpeners. I prefer sharpeners like the mikitokobayashi KitchenIQ 50009 Edge Grip 2 Stage Knife Sharpener. WHAT IS IN THE BOX: One small oval shaped knife sharpener with both a course and fine sharpener indention. The sharpener is mostly constructed of plastic. The course sharpener appears to utilize metal pieces while the fine sharpener appears to be stone of some sort. WHAT I LIKE: Just a couple of passes through both parts of the sharpener puts a great edge on my knives. Sharp knives are safer than dull once because they make clean cuts and don’t tell to roll off food and onto fingers. The sharpener positions the knife perfectly for sharpening. I don’t have to develop any skill set to use this sharpener. The sharpener is small enough to tuck into a kitchen drawer. My house is small and I have no room for excessive large appliances. The flat bottom sits securely on the counter while I hold it in place so I can sharpen my knives safely. This knife sharpener is one of the more affordable options I have seen. WHAT I DON’T LIKE: The fine sharpening “stones” wear out quickly and then the whole sharpener must be replaced. I have to replace it every couple of years. PICTURES: I am including a picture of the sharpener in my hand as a size reference. I believe this is a nice sharpener for the money and would recommend it.

A Lot of Performance (Sharpening) in a Small Package
I purchased the KitchenIQ 50009 Knife Sharpener at the same time I purchased a good chef's knife. I decided it's time not only to take care of my new investment—my chef's knife—but the dull knives collecting dust in my knife block. I looked at several sharpeners and stones. I read reviews. Finally, I landed on this sharpener because of: the overwhelming amount of positive reviews, the low cost of $5.99, and lastly it's ranked the #1 Bestseller under Amazon's knife sharpeners. How could I steer wrong? I have had this knife sharpener for going on a couple weeks. I have no regrets. In fact, I am very impressed with what a great job it does considering how small it is (see my picture). I have sharpened several knives, from an old 8 inch chef's knife to steak knives and even scissors. They are all amazingly sharp! It doesn't take much at all. ***UPDATE: I’ve had this product for over a year now. It’s still going strong in my kitchen. My favorite use is sharpening steak knives. I have saved a lot breathing new life into old knives. Can’t go wrong here! Directions: Place sharpener on a flat surface or the edge of a countertop. Place knives at a 90 degree angle. Use moderate pressure, pulling the blade heel to tip until sharpened. Usually 3-4 strokes is all it will take. There's a coarse side (metal blades) and a fine side (white blades). Coarse is for aggressive sharpening. The fine side is for: light honing, polishing or maintaining already sharp knives. Also, used for serrated knives. The directions can be found on the back of the packaging. Also, you are not to use water to clean your sharpener. A slightly damp cloth after use will suffice. Again, I have no regrets. I am quite happy with my purchase. I hope you found this helpful. If so, please take a moment to give my review a thumbs up. Thanks so much!

Easy to Use, But Sharpness Doesn’t Last
I like this knife sharpener for its simplicity, but the performance leaves something to be desired. It’s very easy to use and provides a quick edge, but that sharpness doesn’t last long. After just a little use, the edge fades quickly, meaning frequent re-sharpening is necessary. I used this sharpener for a few years before switching to sharpening stones. While this product is fine for beginners or those who want something fast and convenient, it doesn’t compare to the long-lasting sharpness and control of stones. TL;DR: Easy to use and okay for quick edges, but the sharpness fades fast. Stones are a much better long-term solution.

Sharp Enough to Slice Through Reality (or at Least Your Veggies)
This Knife Sharpener is one of those kitchen gadgets that makes you feel like a culinary superhero, without the spandex. Stage 1 effortlessly tackles dull knives like it’s a mini construction crew for your blades, and Stage 2 puts the finishing edge on so smooth you half-expect your veggies to salute before being chopped. I’ve used it on everything from butter knives (don’t judge me) to my chef’s knife, and it’s surprisingly satisfying to hear that “shhhhk” as the blade glides through the sharpener. The grip keeps your hands safe, which is great because I like my fingers attached, thank you very much. It’s compact, easy to use, and turns a chore into a tiny victory moment every time you sharpen. If you’ve ever dreamed of being the person who can slice tomatoes paper-thin without effort, this is your gadget. Sharp knives, happy chef, zero regrets. Works fast too!

Bester Messerschärfer den ich je hatte. Gleich mehrere nachgekauft um sie zu verschenken, weil bisher auch Freunde und Bekannte begeistert waren.
