can the dcb 107 charger charge 5. amp batteries?

It will charge a 5 amp, but at 1.25 amp output, expect about 4 1/2 hours to charge a dead battery. The dcb112 has 2amps output and the dcb115 has 4 amp output. The dcb118 also has 4 amp output, but with a cooling fan. We use the 107 and 112 for 2amp or less and the 115 for 3, 4, 5 and 6 amp 20 volt (DCB203 to DCB206). For the dcb115 and dcb118 chargers, expect about 88 to 89 minutes to fully charge a 5amp battery from dead. Initially, all of these chargers have a warm up period and an equalizing period at the end of charging that consumes about 10 to 15 minutes besides actual flow rate charging. Note: Per specs, your batteries should be at least 40F before charging for longer life, but we don't always have time to do that in the winter months... the charger will do it for you, but takes longer to charge. Will this charger work with dcd796 20V 4AH battery?

All of the DEWALT 20V batteries and chargers are interchangeable within the DEWALT 20V product line so yes, the DCB107 will charge another DeWalt 20v battery (specifically, the DCD796 drill with a 4Ah battery which is 20V will charge on the DCB107). Great question!

Does this unit charge DCB 124 compact batteries?

Why will it not ? It says 12/20v. I would assume it would until I found a reason it would not.
