Children explore the many ways we use airplanes, from seaplanes to crop dusters to planes that write messages in the sky. With simple text and vibrant illustrations, readers will learn about transportation by plane. Byron Barton's Planes "will delight the youngest, and have enough meat for older preschoolers and beginning readers."โ Kirkus Reviews Supports the Common Core State Standards Review: A Current Frontrunner - Somewhere after 6 mo, "Boats" fell out of favor and "Planes" took its place as the most favorite book from our limited transportation and machine set (Boats, Planes, Trains, Machines at Work). I'm rather fond of all of these books, mostly for the illustrations which I like very much, bold blocks of color outlined in heavy, black line. Planes isn't Elsie's (8 mo) current favorite book, it's somewhere after Dinosaur Dinosaur and My Car, and somewhere ahead of Barnyard Dance and Sheep in a Jeep, but it definitely makes the list! Like Barton's other books, Planes is a sturdy board book with lovely, bold, vivid, and simple illustrations accompanying very simple text. Elsie's favorite pictures are of the orange jetplane on the blue sky, and of the people getting on and off of the plane. Often she'll let me read it through the first time, then want it again, but turn through quickly herself until she gets to her favorite pages, which she either studies carefully or hits vigorously, depending on her mood. She is certainly interested. I like all of these books for reading to babies, and recommend the board books, even if they aren't lap-sized prints. They're the same size as my other board books, and that seems big enough for Elsie. Any word from other readers on whether or not any pages were omitted in the board book version of this book? I'm curious about it. Review: Great little board book - Board book makes it very easy for little hands to manipulate, and helps them learn how to turn pages. Story is very simple and has primary colors for visual interest. The story generally follows a passenger jet, but introduces various other aircraft on each page (helicopter, float plane, etc.). Overall great little book that my sons and daughter have enjoyed, and has helped them learn to read.

BOYS! Get this for you boys (girls love it too)
This is a great little boardbook for boys or girls who are enchanted by or have discovered airplanes. It was bought for our nephew & niece to get them 'ready' for the sites they'd see on their first airplane trip. They were just shy of two years old. The book introduces all that is seen, the people, the luggage, the pilot, the sky. When reading, we added the sounds of the plane, the ideas of tickets and so forth...It is bright and merry and a very, very simple and clear art that became a happy, repetitive read and a great plane book too.

Perfect book for toddler airplane enthusiasts!
This is a lovely, simple book for very young kids who just want to have fun pointing at and identifying the different types of planes and vehicles. Paypayne! (Airplane). Seapayne! (Seaplane). Heycoco! (Helicopter). There are also a couple pages that have trucks on them, servicing the airplanes or driving into the cargo jet, so there's also the added joy of truck spotting. They do a good job of coloring the different vehicles mostly one single color, so you can also talk about the purple truck, the red helicopter, etc.

Lovely introduction to different types of airplanes!
We bought our son a toy airplane and this book is an excellent accompaniment to the toy, even they are not related or co branded. The book is designed well, has appealing colors and simple (and cute) illustrations depicting the variety of airplanes that we use, from the jetliner to the crop duster. I enjoy reading it to my son and I imagine someday it will overtake the squishy turtle and friends and baby owls and little blue truck as the book he wants me to read out loud to him.

Nice for toddlers.
I recently moved to a Chicago suburb to babysit my grandchildren. O'Hare Airport is about a 30 minute drive from my place. Every day, when my grandson and I were outside, we both marveled at all the jet airplanes flying overhead. I bought this nice book as part of his early Xmas present, It showes different types of airplanes, but most of the pages are about passenger jet airplanes. When I fly to California this Xmas I hope he can come to the airport with this nice book and he'll know what's going on...as much as a 3 year old can understand what's going on. ๐ UPS gets 0 stars.

Not much of a storyline
Nice graphics but not something I or my kid could get into. The idea of planes writing messages in the air is a bit hard to comprehend, the way it was put across.

but the rest of the book is great!
wasn't crazy about the crop-dusting page or the "drink milk" plug, but the rest of the book is great!
