Great Textbook
I love all things having to do with the human brain. This textbook packs a lot of information on the brain into its pages. Some of the features I liked most include the anatomy atlas and the subscription to the Sylvius that lets you study brain anatomy in greater depth. The looseleaf edition is a little easier on the wallet which is great for cash strapped learners.

Neuroscience
A well written introduction to neuroscience. Anyone with some knowledge of physiology should have no problem reading this book. It is true to its title. Every chapter in the text is related to the central nervous system with the exception of a chapter on the neuromuscular unit. The figures are helpful and easy to follow. While perhaps not as complete as Fundamental Neuroscience by Squire it is considerably easier to read. There is also a companion website with neuroanatomy figures and a nice glossary.

Second book that came in was in better condition. Although I recently started reading the book
The shipping process was a bit of a hassle, as I had to return the first book I received because it was partially damaged on the spine and front cover. Second book that came in was in better condition. Although I recently started reading the book, it is a very informative text so far, repeating important topics from section to section of each chapter as well as providing some great illustrations that help understand structures and topics better. I had read in previous reviews that there are a lot of smaller errors in the text- I just started reading it, so I didn't find any yet. If you buy the book new, it also comes with a few informative websites with a glossary, few animations per chapter, and other material that makes the purchase seem like a bit of a bargain. After all, how often would you find an access card + a new textbook for under $100? UPDATE 11/4/15 Okay, so this book started to get a bit frustrating as I started going through the chapters for class. For some reason, they seem to explain material in such a verbose way I found myself holding a dictionary near me and looking up those unnecessarily complex words, making learning those concepts longer and more challenging. Other than that, I think the application boxes they provide in each chapter are interesting and well connected to the introduced material

Great book!
Bought this book for school, and ended up enjoying it very much! It may not be easy to read if you don't have a background in the subject, but it is great for upper level courses. I would recommend to someone who chooses to learn more about neuroscience, as it is well written and fascinating!

A perfect guide
I found this book very helpfull. Descriptions are detailled and it's full of pictures and tables that help learn and remember. A true precious help. The book was suggested to me by Dr. White of Duke University and I think this is one of the best textbooks I've ever had because it was written with a view to make a really though matter as easier as possible.

Neuroscience
The looseleaf edition is so nice when you have a million other books to carry. I put all the pages in a binder I leave at home and only grab the chapters I need so I don't have much to carry. It's a great book with a lot of neuroscience history in it too.

Nothing like what I had hoped for...
Please do not get me wrong; in general, the content is quite good, even if there are numerous (very minor) typos and mistakes, the illustrations are great, and the general readability is great. The problems with the loose-leaf edition start with the paper - very thin and quite poor quality (everything tears, wrinkles, and creases worse than if it were wet newspaper). Another issue is the software (Sylvius) that is supposed to come with the text book - it is a *fantastic* product and comes with the book, but apparently the publishers didn't feel that students who prefer loose-leaf for study purposes deserved the DVD - sad. Overall, this loose-leaf edition just doesn't live up to expectations.

Very dense, but covers as much of neuroscience as one textbook can
Book is EXTREMELY dense. Rented this for a class, but am now deciding to keep it because it covers such a wealth of information concerning all the diverse concepts within neuroscience. I can honestly say that all of my neuroscience classes have been covered within the chapters of this book. The diagrams and figures as well as clinical applications are also very helpful. Definite recommend for anyone interested in neuroscience, although the material is definitely graduate level.

Superb!!
I read some chapters during my PT degree and loved it. Now I just wanted to get it and read the whole thing at my own pace. It goes deep on every subject but starts from scratch.

Great book!
Great book. Although it is not complete and fully detailed (especially "Eye and vision" section) as other books, it is much more clear, interesting and updated than Kandell Principles of neural sciences.
