Repos - So Clover! - Board Game

An excellent short, coop game, which is perfect for the start or finish of a gaming session, or perhaps for a party/xmas family occasion. Even serious gamers should enjoy the challenge. Also extremely replayable, and need not overstay its welcome. Brief summary, its essentially a cooperative word game, in which you are writing erasable compound clues to two different words along each side of your plastic '4-leaf' clover. This has space for four square cards, which form a larger square, and obviously can each be in one of 4 orientations. The idea is to clue the other players as to which pairs of words were randomly placed along the outside of the clover, before the clue giver removed them, and the goal of the game is for the rest of the team to replace them exactly as they were before. But to make it a little more difficult, an extra dummy card is added to the mix. So for example, the clue giver sees something like cross and garlic (not actual words on the card btw!) and writes vampire, and then does that for the other 3 sides. The team then are trying to put the cards back, with cross and garlic on the same side ... but which way round should they be? The answer is that each card has two words at the corner, which means that there should be a relation between pairs of words on different sides of the clover, giving extra clues. Problems can arise if finding a relation between 2 words is practically impossible, or just doesn't come to mind, in which case the clue giver may have to write a clue for only one, and hope their team can piece things together relying on the other clues. Why is this fun? Well lots of people like word puzzles, but also the recriminations when someone comes up with a particularly obscure or unhelpful clue can be entertaining, along with the 'oh that was so clever' exclamations at an especially ingenious clue. Or some 'great minds think alike' kind of satisfaction. Recommended if that's your kinda thing.

So Clover is a word association game that is very fun and challenging. I've played it a lot with friends and family and we've always had a good time. The instructions in the game aren't all that clear, so I'll explain (though these instructions may not be very clear either, though I will try): everyone has a clover board and randomly place four cards in their individual clover board (you can't change them once they're placed). Don't let anyone else see what those cards are. On each of those cards are four words, and at each 'leaf' of the board where you place the cards are two words from two cards that are touching. You then have to come up with a single word that connects the two words together (this can be very hard). It's a co-operative game so it is best to come up with a word that others can guess. Once you have a word on each leaf of the board you remove the cards and add a random card to the ones you used. Shuffle them and then, on your turn, you reveal all five cards and everyone has to guess which card goes where using the words on the leaf to connect two words on each leaf. Once they have placed them the one who wrote the clue words removes cards that are wrong and leaves the ones that are right without saying anything. Everyone else then has one more go to get the right cards in the right places. Once that second round is done the player who placed the cards reveals which are right and which are wrong. You can score it if you want. You then move onto the next player, and do the same. I hope those instructions are helpful. As I said, the instructions aren't the clearest to understand. You could also look on YouTube for a better explanation of how to play. This is a game I definitely recommend and it is rapidly becoming our favourite party game.

Superb game, lots of fun, lots of thinking and suitable for anyone. So Clover? So clever...

I bought this game for a friend as I played it with my family and it was brilliant. Great game of all working together to solve the answers. Really easy concept but as with all good games, the execution can be so frustrating. Only difficulty is getting younger players not to cheat. Makes the brain work, but also really helps if you know how competitors minds think (as the whole point is getting them to guess your answers)

Fun for game nights!!

As well as the more complicated games I like to play with my gaming group, it's handy to have a bunch of lighter, party games to whip out on family gatherings. Over the years I've had success with Times Up, Codenames and Just One. Just One is a little too light and inconsequential for my liking, but usually hits well with anyone, so I had half an eye out for a better party word game. So after playing and enjoying So Clover a couple of times with my gaming groups, I picked up a copy. First outing was with my teenage kids and they enjoyed it somewhat, but they seemed a bit reserved with their enthusiasm. Second outing was with the extended family and, whilst we sucessfully solved every board, I think it was a little too much for their appetite. The actual solving part is fairly straightforward and, if that was the game, I think they would enjoy it well enough. But the struggle was with the choosing of the words for their own boards. To make this easier I let everybody put their cards wherever and with whatever rotation they wanted. But there was still quite a struggle that in not sure they particularly enjoyed. In fact they outright said they preferred Just One. So that leaves this game as just that little bit too complicated for the masses competing in the same space (and same box size) as Just One, which is not. And this is exactly the same problem I've had previously with Decrypto being the better game, but just that little bit too complicated, over the simpler but less engaging Codenames. Anyhow, So Clover is still a good game and one I still enjoy playing when the planets align. It's probably just one (lol) you'll need to save for playing with your gaming buddies.

Great game for word lovers

This is a great party game. It’s cooperative, and while there is a soft limit of six players, to be honest, people can team up and it doesn’t matter. It’s just fun for any number of people more than two. It’s also super easy to understand, and it’s very engaging and party format no turns.

That’s So Clover has quickly become a favourite in our household and with friends. It is a cooperative word association game that is easy to learn and quick to set up, which makes it perfect for game nights and casual gatherings. The clover boards and dry erase markers are great quality, and the rules are simple enough that everyone can join in within minutes. The gameplay encourages creativity, teamwork, and lots of laughs as you try to connect word clues and work together to solve the puzzle. It works well with mixed ages and group sizes, and the short play time means you often end up playing multiple rounds in one sitting. Thanks to the huge variety of word combinations, it feels fresh every time you play. Overall, this is a smart, engaging, and highly replayable game that brings people together. An easy five star game and one I would happily recommend to anyone who loves playing games.

One of the rare word games that works with only three players, where the likes of Codenames and Just One struggle. Good quality components and a fun game.
