Good value. Measures within 0.2% in my test. Easy to use.
This is an inexpensive meter but it's actually a little more solid than I expected for the price, and it is accurate enough for me. To test the calibration I measured out 50 mL water and 5.00 grams sugar to make a 5/55 or 9.1% solution by weight. The meter reads 9.2% on this solution (after adjusting for the +0.2% zero offset on plain water). I am satisfied, as the fine scale marks are 0.2% apart so you can't expect much better than that. There is an offset adjust screw, but to be careful you would always check the zero offset anyway. I had some fun helping my kid measure the sugar content of different apple juices for a science fair project. We also tested Kearns Nectar, which has a crazy amount of sugar. If you don't believe me, try it and see.

Works Great!
Works great! It was tuned out of the box, no adjustments needed.

Excellent tool for winos
If you're a winemaker it's important to know the Brix level of the grapes you're using. If you are also a grape grower it's critical to know the Brix level, as this will determine when to pick and what to expect vis a vis both acidity and alcohol level. This particular refractometer is incredibly easy to use and to read. It's both an excellent value and an excellent and indispensable tool.

Good so far
It seems to be working well for what I need it for. Was calibrated right out of box and was accurate. I used it to test sugar in hays. The first 4 hays I tested was really accurate but two were not. Wondering if the lab was incorrect or if maybe did not have calibrated correctly. Will try again.

good refractometer
i use it to check level of water soluble coolant on grinder and bore sizing machine's coolant,my first step was to check accuracy and i compare with a 450$ misco handheld refractometer, reading on misco refractometer brix 5,6% and this one showing me 5,4%,pretty minimal difference,i don't need more expensive for what i'am to do with.Very pleased, got no regrets, will see now durability, need calibration before 1st use, explaination in case, easy to use, cheap.

Works great!
Works great! Speaking As a former IPM technician, remember that readings while accurate are only as good as the sample you collect! Clean and calibrate often!

Very accurate, provided that calibration is verified prior to the sample analysis
I recently started brewing beer at home and decided to purchase a refractometer to measure the total sugar content of the wort. In order to know how much I could trust this instrument, I prepared a number of sugar solutions with known degree Brix values and measured them with the refractometer. The instrument proved to be substantially more accurate than I expected, provided that care is taken to verify its calibration prior to each measurement. Recalibrating the instrument is trivial, using the included screwdriver and a couple of drops of tap water. Please see the attached image with more details on the instrument evaluation. I apologize for the poor quality of the images, but it is rather difficult to take photos through the ocular of the refractometer using my cell phone. The image that you see directly with your eyes is easy to focus (the ocular rotates for focus) and enables a more precise measurement than what you can see in the photos.

Very handy
Just got it, so still learning to use it. Sure seems easy. I have a cider must in the fermenter about halfway through, and it shows ~3% ABV, which seems about right. Beats the tar out of a hydrometer. VERY small sample size, seems accurate.

Perfect for my needs
Perfect for a beginner. Not the highest quality but worth more than what I paid. Worked well. Perfect for home use or estimates. Fast delivery.

Easy and relatively accurate, requires frequent calibrating
Decent for the money, does require calibration often. You need to do your readings quickly after placing the cover on as it drains and starts changing the reading after 10 seconds or so. Recently tested it against 3 glass hydrometers throughout a brew day and it read slightly higher (0.002 sg points). Overall a easy and quick way to check gravity without pulling a 100ml sample during the fermentation process.
